First a MPS Protege, Now the MPS Mazda 6

Mazda6 MPS
Styled at Mazda's European R&D center in Oberursel, Germany, the Mazda6 MPS concept showed the potential for the new midsize sedan about to go on sale in the U.S. This show car draws on the RX-8 sports coupe for design inspiration and boasts a potent 2.3-liter/280-hp engine. Known as the Atenza in Japan, the Mazda6 is offered globally with a family of engines including the 2.3-liter/160-hp inline-four and higher-performance 3.0-liter/219-hp V-6 gasoline engines that we'll see in the United States. On sale Stateside in December, the zoomy Mazda6 will retail starting around $18,700.

the 2.4L in the new accord and crv puts out about 160 hp. so from your logic, it's a crappy 4 banger. 160hp for a 2.3L is not bad, but you can't judge it until you see the torque.[hr]

yup, so you should expect the 2.3L to be torquey, given big displacement 4 cylinders are known to produce just as much torque as hp if not more. good examples are the 2.5L found in subarus and the nissan 2.4L 240sx.
