Will ticket from another state raise my insurance?
Will ticket from another state raise my insurance?
I know there's a separate legal forum but it seems to be pretty much dead so i thought i'd post here. I have a friend who lives in Connecticut. He got a moving violation ticket in New York. I called the Connecticut DMV and they said the points will not appear on my license. However, they also mentioned that "insurance points" and "dmv points" are different.
So my question is, will my insurance go up?
I want to know if it's worth going to court to negotiate with the prosecutor to lower or eliminate the points, which would obviously raise the amount i pay at court?
If it doesn't raise my insurance, it would make sense to just plead guilty and pay the ticket without going to court because it'll save the inconvenience and the court fee.
Thanks in advance.

How will your insurance know you got a ticket unless you say you got a ticket within the past 3 years when you change over insurances from moving to another state. Just pay the ticket if they're not giving you dmv points.
I think it is according to the state where you (or your friend) got the ticket. When I lived in FL, all the tickets I got in GA affected my insurance but the ticket I got in WV did not.
depends on the insurance company. some don't care about your out of state tickets. but i know for a fact that AAA knows everything about you. i had to switch insurances because of my out of state tickets made my insurance too expensive. go to court if you can get it thrown out. if you can't, don't waste the time. prosecutor won't have anything to do with the points the insurance assigns you so you can't really bargain with him. it's just a matter of whether or not you can get the ticket off your record by doing traffic school or something. the insurance company's internal rating system assigns points to your record. you're going to have to talk to your insurance company. if it's a smaller one, i bet they don't care. good luck to your "friend" lol unless you were trying to say that he was driving your car in ny. if that's the case, don't worry about it, they assign the points to the driver, not the owner of the car.
