Our engines are optimized more than the older ones. It's not like the older civics will produce more power than us with those bolt-ons though. At least I don't think they will. The older civics might gain 15-20 horsies from I/H/E, but their horsepower will still be worse than ours. That's my view at least. Maybe some of the components in our cars that makie them ULEV affect their performance adversely, but overall I prefer my 7th gen to a 6th gen or 5th gen.

The reason you don't get as much gains from bolt ons like the previous gens is because like they said the emission and the car has a more bored out engine out of the factory versus the previous gens. The 6th gen starts with like 10 less hp and their engine isn't bored out thats how Honda got the extra few horses for our cars. And as far as the emissions the 6th gen is a LEV car the 7th gen is a ULEV it takes away a lot of the posibilities. That is why you have things like the TCS exhaust from DC Sports. The 7th gen civic is all about safety ( which i still have yet to see ) and lower emissions.

All this talk about ULEV affecting our cars performance is starting to make me sick. The more I hear it the more it discourages me about putting anymore money into my car, cuz i know that in the long run everything I do wont make much difference.... damn someone just gimme a GS-R PLEASEEE!!!

and one more thing - in canada we dont have any ULEV restrictions or major emission tests like that to pass. dont get me wrong we still have an emission test to pass, but how do u explain the low performance of the canadian cars if we dont have to meet any ULEV restrictions?

pardon my ignorance

Honda designing a ULEV car has nothing to do with state wide emission requirements is has to do with Honda choosing to. When Clinton was in office he passed a law that all of the car manufacturers had to design at least one alternative fuel vehicle ( at least here in the states ). That is why you are recently seeing cars like the Ford Think city and the Honda Insight the Toyota Pruis and so on being designed. Honda still has vehicles like the Prelude that are LEV cars. All car companies will continue to produce cars that have better emissions than others. And I know that DC produced the TCS exhaust to prove that you can have an ULEV car that has some performance.
