Racing w/ baby inside car.
Ok, here we go. My dad and I picked up his stealth yesterday morning from the body shop. We went back to his house and he let me drive his stealth into work and he was going to take one of his company vans in. I pull out onto Havana which is two blocks from where he lives and a civic hatchback pulls up next to me with some hispanic guy in there. This car has like 5 different body panels on them that are different colors, a body kit that isnt even painted, and a completely decked out interior w/ aftermarket seats and whatnot. In the meantime, I didnt know he was next to me, and Im reving the engine up and messing around with the gears. He rolls down his window and asks me if I wanted to race. I said sure but then I looked and saw a car seat w/ a baby in it in the back seat, with the baby crying. I said "you really want to race with a baby in there". He said "why not, she likes it anyway". I said I wasnt going to race him and he speeds off runing the light with his middle finger hanging out the window at me. So I sped off after him and called the police from my cell phone telling them what this guy was doing and followed him to I25. Eventually, after about 4-5 miles on the freeway, a highway patrol officer pulled him over and I just kept going. I know the guy had to get a ticket, because I was doing around 15-20 over the posted 65 limit just to keep on the guys @$$.
I just dont see the logic in why this moron wanted to race w/ a baby in the car.

Good job....i had a guy do the same thing...he gets up beside me in rush-hour traffic and looks like he wants to race. Then i notice the baby in the back. I just looked at him like WTF?! He just took off and started threading traffic. Idiots.

I let just about anyone get away with any kind of traffic violation, but the minute I see them racing, regardless of a baby in the car, I will impound the car and arrest the driver. If I did happen to catch someone racing with a child in the car, I would also charge the operator with endangering the welfare of a minor and refer the case to child protective services. I'm relatively laid back, I write almost no tickets, don't bother people for mods they do to their cars, but the second people become stupid and endanger me and everyone else on the road I get nasty. Ugh that's absolutely disgusting.
I really hope he got in a sh!tload of trouble.
Everyone I've ever met who has had a child has said that they felt nervous and very very protective when they drive with the kid in the car...even if they're excellent drivers. This guy obviously has absolutely not sense of safety--he must have some sort of brain deficiency.

Abandoned street with no houses...the totality of circumstances would give me reasonable suspicion by law to investigate the presence of those individuals, but no, I wouldn't write any tickets at all. I'd probably approach the people though, ask what they're doing and get some names, but theres no reason to write tickets for what you described.

Yes, I am always a little uneasy driving with my little girl in the back seat. They are so small and fragile. Anyhow, just the thought of my daughter being w/o a father keeps me from acting stupid while driving...I wasn't this way before she was here.
<< Would you write tickets to people if they were on an abandanded street wit no houses just curious???? >>
Hopefully Daddy didn't bring the wife & 4 year old down past the warehouse on the way home from Chuck E Cheese to pick up his briefcase only to get T-boned by a couple of "guys" street racing at night in the warehouse district.
C'mon....it's NEVER safe, only less dangerous sometimes.
Have fun, be safe,
i hear ya Mbow and monkey, when i have my girl in the car with me (shes 16 months old), man, you suddenly mature. driving all nice and ****. no speeding, accelerating all nice and slow, no music, man, its something else. and that dude that wanted to race with his kid in the back - can you say "2by4"?

I'd book 'em Dano.
Racing is up there with stupid pet tricks. The unqualified, running with the underpowered, doing the unthinkable.
A certified track is diff. You want to take the chance alone? Good. Dead street racing encourages it elsewhere outside of the track. I wish everybody was like this thread author.

Diznavis, yeah I was at work completing a 10 page report and I guess I wasn't paying attention. I wouldn't be pleased if I saw people racing in abandoned areas, I have an industrial park on my post and people do it all the time. I've never arrested anyone for doing it in an abandoned area, but I have written wreckless summonses for that. I'll arrest if the people are doing it on a public street...I've only had two racing related arrest situations in my career...both when I was in an unmarked car.

Indeed. But also, like you said lowboy... he's a moron. You understand that, right?
