i wanna hear your opinion on this car. Im looking to trade my civic
for it mainly because i need a four door thats inexpensive but i still
wanna have sum fun with it.
im interested in its realability and how does it respond to mods, i know its
a 2L turbo so im guessing it can be made pretty quick with the right parts.
if anybody has any experience with this car let me know
thanks

thier definatly quick cars, I would compare stock for stock the with the jetta 1.8t power wise. My only draw back on the car is that it is very stiff, and you have to shift pretty hard when your really steping on it.
Of course I'm still on the boards...
I went from my civic to the MS protege to the RX-8 to an S2K and a Cayenne.
I will say this...the MS Protege has long been a top contender with the SRT-4. The SRT-4 obviously has more potential for very high hp, but there are several MSP's out there pushing 300+ to the wheels. Get a GT28rs thumper kit with some crower rods, and that's all you need really. A decent tune will also go a long way.
The car comes with a Tochigi Fuji Sangyo LSD. This amazing unit makes the car more neutral and understeer is almost gone. It will always be FWD but that car handles like it's on rails. We used to call it the four door miata.
I think its a classy little car. You can probably pick one up these days for fairly cheap. Just don't get spicy orange...it's a little too loud. I had the titanium gray.
Oh yeah it also comes with one of the best stock sound systems and Racing hart wheels. The turbo system was designed by callaway, but the intercooler is from the european diesel proteges. The reason why the BOV sounds funny is because it's not a BOV, rather it's a BPV (bypass valve). Essentially it has a flange that seems to open and close sporadically making the "turkey" sound.
I highly recommend the car. Sport Compact Car called it the best handling FWD car of all time. One of the best cars I owned. Get the GT28rs "disco potato" thumper kit, crower rods, replace that BPV with a proper BOV, a proper FMIC, and a good tune and you're well on your way.
Reliability when kept stock is excellent. Once you start modding, well it's all up to you. YOU will be the sole factor on how well the car holds up when modded. Do it right, and you'll be fine...take shortcuts and thats' when things go wrong.
My only issues with the car is the stock alarm seemed to go off all the time, and the shifter seemed a bit notchy. Reason behind it is that when coming from a civic that has shift linkage connected through cables, the MSP's directly linked gearbox felt more notchy. You'll get used to it though.

Good luck.
