CivicRacer, not a chance. In order to be charged with speeding, a motor vehicle violation, you must be observed by a sworn, commissioned individual (a cop) employed by the law enforcement agency having jurisdiction over the area in which you were allegedly committing the offense. Based on that observation (radar, lidar, pacing, etc) they may complete a uniform traffic summons, which is classified as an accusatory instrument alleging the offense. John Q. Citizen has no police powers and can't call the local authorities and request that you be summonsed for something they observed.
QCKSILVR--r u a cop or something? thats awsome ...now i can ask u about how cops are....
how far above the posted speed limit will cops usually pull you over...5 over? 10 over?

My Crown Vic flys. I'm not sure what the hell it is, but I know it's a special Police Package V8 engine with every imaginable toy in the car. I've never raced anyone but I have been in 2 pursuits...
Hey QCKSILVR...i just had a quick question...why would it be illegal to have hyper white (blue) bulbs in our sidemarkers as running lights? Distraction? seems to me it draws more attention thus letting people know that im there so they wont ram into me. Could you help me out with that? I live in cali, and recently got a ticket for it. Thanks
The distraction is the main purpose beind the prohibited colored LEDs and colored side marker lights. Also, specific statutes regulate what color light a vehicle may display...red and blue are usually reserved for emergency vehicles. Those are the main reasons why the color lights are prohibited.
how bout green??? one of my friends got a ticket for green lights.... sounds kinda stupid since nothen uses green and he had a green bimmer which looked SICK with green lights.... hmmm
Go to DPS and pick up a Title 47 Book ..... that will tell you what color regulations you can have for your state.... all states are different .... got a ? about Oklahoma then I can help but no where else.
Also.... to the John Q. Public remark .... in Oklahoma a citizen can turn you in if they see something .... say they thought you were driving reckless.... well the cop will investigate and decide whether to drop it or give you a summons to go to court and let a judge decide who is telling the truth.

02Carbon, John Q. Public does not have "police powers,"--the ability to physicially take someone into custody...however, I see what you're saying. You can report something to a law enforcement agency and sign a sworn affidavit against another individual--in this case, you do become the "arresting party." But---no officer can issue a summons for something they didn't observe or have probable cause to believe occured---for example, if they observe someone go through a red light, they may issue for failing to obey a red traffic light--that was on observation. On the other hand, at an accident scene, if they discover a party is operating a vehicle w/o a valid license, they may issue for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle--While the officer probably did not observe you driving the car at the time of the accident, they had reasonable knowledge to believe that you were operating w/o a license (probable cause). Good point about the citizen thing though--a citizen can always sign an affadavit against someone.
I just looked at my VTL (Vehicle and Traffic Law) book for New York--absolutly no colored LEDs are allowed-white, green, blue, purple, etc--it can be written as an improper lighting fixture, as well as an unauthorized display of a certain color. Not that I care though, I don't enforce that.
I did not say that they had "police power" .... and I think I should know what I'm talking about since I work for a department here in Oklahoma..... you obviously understood what I was saying because you agreed.
Yeah sorry I guess that was a smartass comment also..... yeah I just graduated in december with a criminal justice degree so that helped me get hired since I'm only 21..... I dont really want people to know where I work since it is kind of a small town.
