They say its a V8, but they fail to mention its still FWD.
I say its good if you want a luxery cruiser that can go, but not something that handles well, unless you like driving in huge ovals...

a friend of mine just picked up a 06 Pontiac GXP it has the same 5.3l FWD as well. its a pretty quick car. not the best handling car but it is pretty quick. it has DOD too and he has averaged 22 city and 26hwy so far. and also GM is offering that $1.99 for the lifetime of the vehicle. he did this because he had a 05 grand cherokee limited with a HEMI and he got about 9-12 with that. so he did this to save some money which it will surely do being that gas around here is about $3.55-3.60 a gallon in some places. so not only does he get the milage doubled but gas price almost cut in half. good investment if you ask me. may not be the most desirable car but as far as someone doing this to get out of a gas guzzler then its not a bad deal.
I was looking at them , i think there pretty nice. The 5.3 is a proven motor, basicly a small ls1. The trans is a stronger version that are used in the supercharged cars. i should sound pretty mean with aftermarket exhaust. I wouldent be too concerned about the FWD platform, nice if you get snow inthe winter.

I'm gonna chime in here. I have a 05 Grand Prix GXP with the 5.3 LS4. I'm running a 13.6 @ 101 mph bone stock. The GXP has wider front tires then the back ones. There isn't too much torque steer. It has TapShift which the Impala SS don't have. It is one of the BEST manumatics out there. Shifts are instant. It'll smoke a K20 with no problems. The HEMI cars can't keep up with it. The GXP has Bilstein shocks and lowered right from factory. Overall it's a pretty good car. The interior has issues with some of the plastic which is used but other then that GM did a good job on it. The seats are fantastic. They keep you planted well. For all the extra stuff it would be wiser to get a GXP over the Impala SS. The GXP also gets Alcoa 18" Forged wheels.Cross drilled rotors and PBR Calipers.I wish it was RWD but for a FWD it handles great. It is excellent in the snow. Sound mean. Stock exhaust is Corsa. Not a huge aftermarket at all. But it is slowly coming out.
Some of you guys that say GM's will break when you floor it. Quit talkin out your a$$. Honda or Toyota quality is a myth. I've gone through lots of GM and it seem the Imports I get I have problems with.

This is purely subjective, but does anybody else think that the Monte Carlo is the world's ugliest coupe? No offense to anybody who likes the looks of them, I'm just wondering if anybody else shares my opinion, or am I nuts?
Oh, as to whether or not to get one - It would be fast in a straight line and the fuel economy should be ok on the highway; just remember it's a heavy car, so you'll sacrifice handling. If that sounds ok to you, then it's pretty good bang for the buck.

Stylistically, I've never liked modern Monte Carlos. I'm sorry Hemi, but I don't like the look of that GXP either. I mean, sure its a great car, but its just not I dunno, attractive to me. The G6 is nice though, I'd say thats the only nice fwd coupe I like from GM at the moment.

BTW, I 've always kinda liked the looks of the Grand Prix, and I think the G6 coupe looks good, but the sedan not so much.

i would have to agree it is a good bang for the buck, but that isnt much to say becasue the same can be said abou thte srt4. it does have appealing interior though an the body styling isnt what i would want but it doesnt look bad. i was surprised to see the brake kit it had and also the tap shift(paddle shifters) it seems to have some good options for what it is. on top of that the whole gm $1.99 for gas for life thing is insane. that is a good marketing technique. and the fact that it has DOD with the GM gas deal will save people a lot of money.
