i owned mine for about 10 months now and so far I got me two speeding tickets. one for doing 46 in a 20 (driving school 4 that one, paid $75, plus it didn't go on my record) and 68 in a 35. i was actually racing a buddy of mine in a 2000 Ford Edge, and he got ticketed also. that was $100 plus my other ticket went on my record . cops around here suck (hillbilly-county Indiana) not too many imports driving around here, just neons with 14 inch Japanese letters on the windshields.

Now YOU have a right to be pissed. None of those are moving violations, but the fines have to be killing you.
As for myself, I got one ticket for doing 70 in a 50. Took drivers school and learned my lesson.

A few years ago I had an accord with 5% tint. I lived in GA originally and they don't mess with you much or check your tint when they do an inspection. Moved to NC and didn't get an inspection for like 5 years because they check the tint when they do it. On my way home from school one day, a bastard saw me and gave me a ticket. 3 days later, same bastard, same place, gave me another one. Needless to say, I spent a day stripping my tent and got the car inspected and both tickets dropped.

I think that there should be a seperation betwean traffic violation enforcers and police officers. They're getting a bad reputation with the general population for handing out tickets.

Anyway, I had one cop give me a ticket for running a STOP light. I thought that my driver's education would be good for one warning at least. Nope, nothing. All he said was, "STOP sign". That's it. I wish I had said something back to him, but the asswipe drivers education instructor said not to try to convince them to not give me a ticket. I think I could have weaseled myself out of that ticket if I tried. Stupid, good for nothing drivers education. Anyway, the cop was having a lack of donut day or something? Talk about ****!

I've gotten Two Tickets so far, One for speeding 58 in a 35, and one for careless driving (cutting a cop off). But I mean I didn't see the cop coming, I turned in front of him that as it, but he pulled me over because I was doing a U-turn and he was looking at my car and didn't see a front lincense plate so that's why he really pulled me over but he gave me a careless driving ticket. and GET THIS The cop that gave me the ticket got into an accident last week because he was driving drunk, he hit some lady and she had to go the hospiltal and everything. what kind of cop is that?

I have gotten 3 tickets in the past 5 months... my first was for not using my turnsignal 100 yard before I turned... that cop had it out for me cause my friend was being a jerk to him the week before... then one for neglagent driving... I was weaving in and out of traffic and a unmarked state patrol officer got me... and then one more for doing 53 in a 35 which was on a huge hill and I was just coasting and not really paying attention to my speed as I talked to my friend... and the cop was going up the other side of the hill... and hopped the cement divider that was like 7 feet long just to pull me over... cops really make me mad!

I completely agree with you Greg--I don't like writing tickets at all at work, maybe I write 5-7 uniform traffic summonses a a month and the people with the big mouths are always the recipients. You'd really be amazed at what some people say when you get them stopped.......tickets are issued for a reason, however, and referring to cops as "pigs" and "bacon" certainly won't help your cause.

I had a great pulled-over to ticket-received ratio going when I lived in Brooklyn! Now that I live in Jersey, the cops aren't nearly as cool. I've gotten pulled over twice and ticketed twice. Both pretty crappy ones too - one for 89 in a 65, and the other for 85 in a 65. On the second the $#%@#$# cop also gave me a ticket for failure to use my turn signal which is BS!! I know I always use my signal, but there is no way to contest or prove it. That was $130 down the drain.

I feel better now.

I work and live about 18 miles away from NYPD jurisdiction, they cover all of the city including Brooklyn and they're very nice people. I've even been hassled a few times by Jersey cops, I don't particularly care for the ones that I have encountered. As for the few speeding tickets that I write when I'm forced to work in the unmarked car, I usually will knock the speed down considerably or not even issue, if the person is nice...

I think it's bascially that NYPD cops have way much more to do then bust speeders. I imagine that if an NYPD cop pulls someone over who is just driving along, (no gun, drugs, etc...) they are easier on them because there many situations they face every day that are a lot worse. NJ cops (in SOME areas, not ALL), have very little to worry about, and they need to generate revenue for their township. I understand that if I am speeding I deserve a ticket, but being a harda$$ isn't necessary. I miss NYPD cops, they were more down to earth.

i just got back from paying my fine 122.75, for 64 in a 45. I got pulled a few weeks ago because I had a license plate surround. The cop was cool about that one and let me take it off but he told me the precinct has told all traffic officers to crack down on import cars.

Most PDs, including mine, have full time traffic officers that drive special enforcement cars--unmarkeds and slick tops (says police on sides but no overhead lights) with all hidden strobes that are very hard to pick out to the untrained eye...these officers do not get any radio calls at all and are simply assigned to enforce the traffic laws. Even the NYPD has a unit like this, but they usually sit on the highways.

Yeah, I've seen the slick tops on the Belt Pkwy now and again. Sick to say, but I actually like the way they look. It's a better way for the cops to be stealthy, especially while moving at night. More for reckless driving than speeding alone. DUI/SWI also. I've gotten pulled over by the Highway Patrol in NY, and they were not harda$$es at all. They were courteous, and "bargained" with me. I guess it also depends on how your initial attitude toward the cop is. I try not to be an a$$hole, cause I'm sure that isn't appreciated! I've never heard anything about cracking down specificially on import cars...technicially that's illegal as it would be selective enforcement of traffic laws. When I drive a slicktop or unmarked, I usually just blend in and drive with traffic and if I see someone flying up behind me, or in the opposite lane, I have a button I can push that will active the "instant on" radar which isn't detectible by a radar detector...I also have another option that I can push while parked that will pick out the fastest moving car in a group of traffic...but like I said, I'm not a ticket writer at all...I'd rather just tell someone to slow down.

Yeah, I go out to LI a lot. (Family there).

<Knock on wood> I've never been pulled over in LI. (Wouldn't like to start, either!). From what I hear, Nassau big on aggressive drivers. Also on people who drive while talking on their cell. I try not to do either, so maybe I'll be ok!

Yes, very big on aggressive drivers. Undercover/unmarked units help a lot in those situations. I don't really enforce the cell phone thing that much, I'm always on my phone in the car, however some officers have started to go after people for it. As far as ever getting pulled over in LI, or anywhere else for that matter, I would recommend just being courteous...

2k2 civic--you sound really ignorant when you say "all cops suck." I for one, don't even stop people for the windshield washer lights and I've never written a summons on it. You shouldn't judge all cops by a negative encounter with one...

well youre the good kind of cop. there are a lot of a$$holes that like to play god or think that giving tickets to people who really dont deserve them somehow makes the world a better place.

problem with that is quotas (which should be done away with) quotas just make cops give tickets for things that dont deserve tickets. if you had a quota of 10 but you only felt that 5 people you pulled over deserved them, youre now forced to give 5 people who dont deserve them tickets too

there are definitely times when people deserve tickets, like when they do something dangerous or just plain stupid, but certainly not when the cop has to make up a term that could apply to anything and apply it to something that is legal (like changing lanes) so that he can give a ticket. i even think more cars should be pulled over, but LESS should receive tickets. like another cop on this site said, pulling someone over is often done to see if theyve done anything else wrong or are drunk or have warrants, etc. plus, just pulling someone over is likely to set them straight

A summons for red license plate bulbs at 4 in the morning is plain stupid if you ask me; and while its important to signal a turn so everyone on the road knows your intentions, I'd get more out of telling the driver to signal in the future rather than writing a ticket for it. Just my opinion...
