Quotas, or "numbers" are ridiculous. I'm a firm believer in officer's discretion as far as issuing summonses.

<< I had a great pulled-over to ticket-received ratio going when I lived in Brooklyn! Now that I live in Jersey, the cops aren't nearly as cool. I've gotten pulled over twice and ticketed twice. Both pretty crappy ones too - one for 89 in a 65, and the other for 85 in a 65. On the second the $#%@#$# cop also gave me a ticket for failure to use my turn signal which is BS!! I know I always use my signal, but there is no way to contest or prove it. That was $130 down the drain.

I feel better now.
>>

shouldnt that mean if you fight it theyll throw it out unless the cop has it on tape.. in this country you are innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt...

I'm with you! Unfortunately, for revenue purposes, many departments do believe in quotas.

Diznavis - I'm not sure about the burden of proof on an issue like this. I would imagine though, if I received a ticket for doing 20MPH over the limit, the judge would side with the cop anyway.

Last spring I broke my ankle at a track meet and was driving home to get my insurance card so I could go to the ER. I was going 80 or so in a 35. The cop was going in the opposite direction but turned around and caught me at the next red light. I thought he was being a jerk but it turns out that he put a lower speed on the ticket so I didn't get my liscense revoked.

Its not that easy anymore to get tickets thrown out of court, at least in New York...the famous "if the cop doesn't show" really doesn't work anymore because they'll keep adjourning until you show up. Plus, the cop always does show because they are paid, and often are getting overtime, which is time and a half. As far as the recording stuff, our regular marked cars don't have cameras or anything, but the unmarked cars do.

I started a link like this not to long ago as well. I get way more attention now cause of the little things ive done to the car, cant wait to see the attention ill get when i do the big jobs later this month.

Best ticket i "almost" got was when i was doin 47 in a 45. The cop pulled out in front of me bout 100 yrds up, now the 300ZX in front of him zipped away like the wind but the cop didnt do anything. Now im no rocket scientist, but if im doin 47 and u r doin 45....slowly but surely im gonna cath up to u and pass u. Well i passed the cop, in fact...the word "passed" is over zealous...it was more like i CRAWLED!! past this cop.

He speeds up and slows down 2 times, also dropping back to 45 mph, im still doin my 47 so i catch him again everytime. Hell finally pulls behind me and pulls me over. Now it gets fun......

This dumba$$ comes up behind my car and then SLIDES!! along my driver side, now i know u guys seen them Batman Utility belts these idiots have on, well its draggin along my car. U talk about pissed, i lowered my window and told him to get the F#@K off my car i was so pissed. He tries to start crap with me saying i was "disrespecting a police officer" cause i passed him. I went nuts, i have a decal across my windshield that reads "ViLLanZ" its our group. I started saying thats the only reason he did what he did cause of what my car looks like, he started threatening to write the ticket and i kept taunting him, go head and write it pimp, get ur a$$ laughed outta court. My dad is an x-cop so trying to be smart with me is the dumbest mistake. Eventually i pissed him off and he just left LOL, i mean he really just walked away and pulled off.

Ive lost major respect for cops, not all our bad but u give a hick a gun and some authority and good Lord....As u can see im still pissed this ever happened, go get a donut or catch a "REAL" criminal....all we want is nice cars and cops get attitudes. If i pissed someone off im sorry but i hate cops so bad, well, the ones here atleast. Not all r bad but i swear.......I have more fascinating stories but im writing a book and having it published. Its called "The Life of a Ricer" on bookstores this Xmas!!

Ok after reading posts by QCKSILVER i felt compelled to write a good cop story, from my book of course, LOL. Im humming along doin 35 in a30, i see the cop coming towards me bout 75 yrds off, for some stupid a$$ reason i get lead foot and i speed up for just a sec but i went to 41 mph in a 30 and the cop threw his lights on and pulled me over.

He took my license and then was like "Chirs, i had u doin 35 in a 30...u were doin just fine....what in the hell made u jump to 41?!?!?! i know u saw me." I was like man....dude i dunno, foot just went heavy and bam, i saw u officer....just dunno.

He told me to sit and let him run my tag to make sure the car was mine lol. He came back and asked me what my license plate meant, its a personal one...ya know how it is He wrote me a citation and told me to take care of that bad foot. Citation is a warning, no fine. He walked away and right when i was about to pull away he came back and said "By the way Chris...sweet a$$ car" He was a cool cop.

I also had a cop pull up next to me at a light and honk his horn, he gave me the "go" sign for when the light turns green. Thought he was kidding....well that light went green and he dropped that crown victoria so i slammed mine.......was so phat. we hit the 60 mph speed limit and he told me to slow down....then the cocky pud dropped it and went to 100 mph easy. When i caught up to him later on down the road he waved to me......cocky SOB, but a cool dude.

A couple nice stories among the Horrors.....but i felt i needed to post those.

I am in the military and have received two tickets on base, which is a plus because they don't go on your driving record, you just have to see your supervisor, and I got one when i went home to memphis for yielding at a stop sign. it was 1 in the morning on a monday night, there wasn't a soul on the roads at the time, and the cop still gave me a ticket. One good thing about that ticket was that the cop was a hot A$$ female. It was my first ticket that I actually enjoyed.

I stop a lot of people but I almost never write a ticket unless the person gives me a real good reason to. Everyone is entitled to make mistakes and I don't see the point in writing tickets for that. A few times I've been called select names by people I've stopped, I usually write them...and the people that talk a mile a minute and yell at me for stopping them get written, but anyone else I am inclined to let go...that's just how I like to do it.

wish more were like u around here, especially since this is Mississippi, so if u aint driving a truck with friggin mud tires on it u r a trouble maker. No joke, its notorious that cops here HATE imports, ive seen trucks with all colors of light glowing from EVERYWHERE and cops shoot the $hitand r cool with them, i go by them with my windshield washer LEDs and they stop me and say turn them off. No joke its very well known here. They just think all imports r punks and all the truckers r there country backwood neighbors.

lol sometimes i feel VERY alone in mississippi lol. QCKSILVER, u lookin for a job transfer? we gotz beaches

I got my only ticket last november... I was slowin down from 75 to 50 (coz the new speed zone was no longer 70, it was now 50) and out comes a cop and directs me to a side road. he gave me the minimum fine of $115 CDN... i was gonna fight it coz i was slowing down and all and they really should give you time to slow down after the speed zone change... but i decided after all of the speeding I usually do, i probably completey deserve the ticket. bein caught for 71 in a 50 is much better than 160 in a 90

these are all km/h speeds if anyone's wondering how i got my civic to 160mph

Pearl, I haven't been working that long...I don't think my bosses would like it if I told them I was leaving not too long after six months of training was invested in me...I know what you're saying regarding the appearance of certain cars, though...I have some officers in my department that are like that...they are old timers though.

lol understood QCKSILVER, plus u would prolly need therapy to go from NYC to BFE......ROFL

Cops like u give me faith, i never pop off if i KNOW im wrong, ill admit when im wrong, like when i got a ticket for street racing, i was cool with the cop cause i knew i was wrong but i know when a cop is bein retarded too cause when i have blown up on a cop ive never gotten a ticket cause no matter how many threats they r making they know they r full of it and thought they could pick on someone.

Here is another thing, im in the military and have been for a couple years, only 22 so its cool. But when i am out of uniform i look TOTALLY different. I dont have that buzz cut look goin, actually i do my hair like im rdy to go clubbing haha but i also sport earrings etc etc. Cops see this and instantly pre-judge, then when i show them military ID they completely change roles and try to repull there foot out of there mouths. I think this is shameful, utterly disgusting to be honest.

Must admit i do love it thought when a cop feeds u this completely ridiculous line and im like "Oh really?" Then the cop has the nerve to say if im in military i shouldnt wear earrings....nice comeback.

Most ones i have had trouble with r old timers but there is this one young pup that has been gunning for me lately, he lied bout some things he said so i embarrassed him in front of his fellow officers, he has been following me lately after i leave the club. Whats a Ricer to do.......

It is wrong when cops do the pre-judging thing, but with your military ID card, cops in general like to know what they are dealing with off the bat. So you should just hand over the card with your license. It is extremely hard to take a ticket back once written, as they are serial numbered, it can be done but it makes the cop look bad. So if I were you, I'd hand the card over with the license if you get stopped.

i got a speeding ticket, 60 in a 35 zone cost me 140 for ticket, 35 for traffic school fee, and 45 for the traffic school itself. then, i got a ticket, written up for 85 in a 65, i was going 80, that one cost me 136. the one for 85 really ticked me off because i never go faster than 80 with people in the car... never.

lolol ughh i would hate that

u think that would really help QCKSILVER?

Myself, as well as all of the officers I work with, like to know exactly what we are dealing with right off the bat, in any encounter. I extend courtesy to almost anyone who is courteous to me, but I would always give an automatic courtesy to military, etc. You would find in the New York/New Jersey area that most officers would most definately extend courtesy to you upon seeing that card. It's the same way if you have an officers PBA card, which is given out to friends and family of the officer, signed by the officer. I like to see that with the persons drivers license. That's just me though, and how I and most other officers in this area prefer to do it.

I got one ticket for 102 in a 70 and not having registration with me. It's due on the 14th. What if it's a dependent military I.D.?

I would show that too...my bosses don't like me because I find a reason to let everyone go, but like I said, the tickets I write are reserved for the people who truly deserve them.

I would get pulled over about every week when I had my accord. I only actually received tickets about 4 times for my exhaust and since I have had my civic I havent been stopped yet. If you do something to your car that is illegal then you will get pulled over sooner or later.

All the cops I've come in contact with have been pretty cool. I've only been pulled over three times tho... here's what for:
1. Expired plates (Um yeah... to top it off it was the state's fault... didn't match the plate number with the number on the registration papers you send in, and never corrected it when it was brought to their attention... whatever). No ticket tho, didn't even know about it.
2. Making an illegal left turn (no left between certian times type thing)... didn't get a ticket... he'd just written his last one to someone else who'd done the same thing.
3. 80mph in a 55... got a ticket, paid for it all myself (got my butt busted when my parents found out, but I delt... took it like a woman) did 4 hours of school and didn't get it on my record.

But 'cause I didn't cry or talk **** or act like I hadn't done anything wrong (except for the first one... 'cause i really hadn't) I got treated right... didn't get talked to like I was a child or like I was a b!tch and realy appreciated that... I hate cops that think just 'cuase I'm a girl means I'm either gunna cry or be a superb!tch (and it drives me nuts when girls who can turn on the waterworks at the break of a nail can get out of a ticket... esp if they're really broken the law)

I do not like the crying at all. That can almost always guarantee a ticket from me or any other officer for what you did, plus anything else I find. It's obnoxious and irritating. I'm completely inclined to let anyone go for just about any traffic violation until they start yelling at me, crying, etc., etc.

hey qcksilver...
you sound like a nice cop and all but if you were me youd hate all the pigs out there...ive had some many problems with the bacon in the past year that ive had 2 lawyers so far and im working on a lawsuit against the town i lve in over it all...all started when i got expelled for ridiculous reason then the cops started pulling me over for no reason because the town i live in is small and i pissed off themayor by playing my system to loud then i insulted one of his friends sons in public...now they want mearrested bad..the cops tell my friends and their parents not to let them hang out with me cus "im going down" as they put it...but ive never been arrested the wors ive gotten was a couple tickets 1 for speeing and one for unsafe maneuvering....but im in the process of getting that one nullified....and its fnny that they are out toget me when there are kids that have brought weapons to school and used them, kids selling heroin that they caught doing it and they let them all run th streets lke nothing hppened...and its sad to see they are out to get me because in the past few months a kid died from an overdose in our town yet they let the dealers run free and are after me cus i ran my mouth about someones son who got me expelled for "disrupting the educational process" yet a kid brings a pipe to school and hits someone over the head and only gets 5 days suspension.....so im sure you can see why i hate most cops and refer to them as bacon and pigs
