Cobalt SS supercharged
Cobalt SS supercharged
ok i dont get why this car isnt recognized? If i had the money, i would get it in a heartbeat. around here they go for about 21k...and they are nice inside and out. i read an article comparing the cobalt with the rsx type s...and it hung right with it! Actually it beat it in some parts of the comparision. Also, they look 10x better then those ugly Neon srt4s!!!! just thought i would voice my opinion.

yea, but it is about 3k cheaper and you can buy a pulley kit from chevy that takes the boost to about 12-13psi! also it doesnt void warranty. and about the motor blowing up...that sucks for him, but the ecotec motor is one of the best out there!!!

well--its just like the neon srt. its gonna last just a little while until they start blowing up or gettin' totaled
varner88: its not really rebadged--b/c they dropped the cavi from their line. but we got what you meant

The Cobalt SS doesnt have an indenpendant rear suspension, which is total BS for a compact sports car. Also the 18 rims are too friggin big and mess up the vehicle dynamics, the Saturn Ion Redline in comparision does a little better because its got 17" rims. The things got an engine, but lacks so many essentials.
well maybe, but it did pretty well against the rsx in the car & driver comparision. and also still what about the cobalt against the neon? and as for wheels, how many of us replace the stock ones anyways?

why do ppl buy the Neon over the Cobalt SS.... well, it's the way Dodge marketed the SRT-4. It's cheaper, Dodge makes it seem unbeatable, and has Mopar support. I have driven a Ion Redline.... a few things bugged me about that car. Driving position doesnt influence "quick car" mentality, clutch has long travel and is heavy.... RSX-S and Cobalt SS, well, all things considered, RSX has better interior, and better driving feel. ANd cant forget high tech NA vs ordinary + boost to match speeds.... I guess this is kind of like the tC TRD SC vs. Civic Si as well.

i have respect for the car. for 5k you can get it factory built to handle like 40 psi i think. run 10s all damn day, probably better than that. everyone has their own way.
the big advantage is the car is already boosted. so any mods what so ever will just give you good gains. in all honesty i would have to agree that making the same hp N/a is just more impressive and better. BUT the stock boosted cars running around have the advantage of being pre-sleeved, running boost profile cams, and boost profile built motors.
but yea if you boost a k motor its over.

And then tuning a d17 to that probably would help the reliablity much either.
so drive_fast_dail neons srt4 have 230whp 2 the wheels? lol no. i was at the beach today, with a friend that HAS an SRT4 and they are not as fast as people say, he even said its only right around 180-200 hp to the wheels! all hes got is a BOV..
the ss are **** they are just rebadged if u listen to gm its not they just changed the name to give it more selling power thats its. i think more people would like a rsx over the the cobalt.it looks better and can go faster and has more backing. these guys are saying ohh it sc but if honda would offer a sc that u could add on with the sc then the rsx would sket sket all over it and have more for a second go around.
There have been several dynos saying that the srt4 was under-rated from the factory and that the given horsepower is close to what the wheel horsepower is not the flywheel horsepower
Either way, doing some minor mods to it such as a CAI, will net some nice gains.

We drive a Cobolt LS for work and it's a crappy car. The interior is bland as anything(worse than my 2k Cavalier) and it gets WORSE gas mileage than they advertise(around 20mpg). Unless the SS has a completly different interior I wouldn't buy one. Actually, I wouldn't buy one to begin with. I'm happy with my vic.
Last time I had this much fun some furniture got broken!

I would never get one cause I hate the way they look and I dislike GM after having a GM car before. I won't turn around in a week and get one if they make a 300 horspower AWD version either. I like what I like and I would rather not be 'trendy'

I still don't know where some of you guys thought it was a post of an SS v's a RSX. As far as the original questions goes; why do people chose the SRT-4 over the Cobalt SS? I think, like it was stated before, that it has to do with marketing. The SRT-4 had always been marketed as a fast little car, the SS although it was compared to the little bother of the Corvette it never did get marketed for it's full potential. I would take the Cobalt, it is almost as fast as the SRT-4, better handling and more reliable imo.
