First off, if big wheels are you're thing, then so be it. They look great but are often times very, very, heavy, especially when compared to stock.
I am going to use the bicycle example with all variables kept constant except the weight of the wheels. Say you take off on the bike as fast as you can and timed it. Now, put some wheels on there that weigh say 5lbs more each. Take off as fast as you can again. Which way do you think you are going to have the best time. You have the same amout of strength, or hp and torque and our case, but now you are turning a much heavier load. This is a very easy principle to see.
Now, I do not know how much it will effect your acceleration times but it will definately affect it. It depends on how much weight that you added. It wouldn't surprise me in the least that the weight effect of 18s would amount to a sec in the quarter mile.
The lighter your wheels, the easier the engine can spend them, plain and simple. It's called inertia.
Anyhow, not trying to argue, but I think the point needed to be made a little clearer.
