Went to trade in my AT for a MT today
Went to trade in my AT for a MT today
So i went to the dealership right behind my house. They have a 2003 honda civic same color, model, everything except it's an MT with 58,000 miles and mine is a AT with 47,000. My cars has a few very minor nicks, and a big scrape on the lower bumper. There car has a broken front bumper, from hitting a parking block. So after talking to the sales guy who was really cool and help full. We went in to talk to the guy who took a look at my car. I imagine he is the manager. I walk in the door and the first thing he says is. "MT are worth more then AT on a civic" I replied No there not. And then he asks do you have all the stock parts. because i have a RAI, and i painted my valve cover. I said yes and he says. Good. give me 1,000 bucks and you have a deal.
I asked him if he was seriouse, and when he said yes. I just laughed and said can i have my keys please, and thank you for your time.
So it looks like i might look into a manual swap. having an Auto is slowly eating away at my soul. Any advice would be help full in my situation.
Thanks

lol.. mt worth more than an at? good on you for correcting him..
if you really wanna save the hassle of a at to mt swap, i'd say fight for a straight trade. and kick the guy (manager?) in the nuts for being a dumbass, too..

sounds like you could just swap the cars...
ur car has less milage but more damage and an AT.
their car has more milage but less damage and is a MT
If anything they should pay u a $1000 cuz u have 11k less milage

edit:
i just did a quik kelley blue book estimate on 2-2003 civics (for this estimate, i used a 2003 civic ex coupe with 'good' vehicle conditions and all the same options). using the different mileages and tranny types alone gave me these 2 'trade-in-values':
yours (47k miles, AT): $10915
theirs (58k miles, MT): $9590
i suggest you do your own little scenario with kelley blue book with the small differences in options, print it out, bring it to the dealership, kick them in the nuts, then get a fair trade.. lol.. unless you really wanna do the AT --> MT swap

Well the boss boss called me about an hour after i left. Said he just got in a herd i was looking at his civic. I told him he was asking way to much. So he said he would talk to the sales guy who helped me and see what he can do. I know the guy was high balling it, and expected me to try and talk him down a little. but he made it clear a far trade was not an option. So I didn't even bother and left. Not to mention i watched him yank on my Air intake to make sure it was on snug, and he messed up the alignment. no i have to adjust it because at 800 rpm it vibrates againt to trottle body.

my first question is why would they leave het car with a broken front bumper and not fix it, but im thinking the same thing, should i swap the transmission i want my manual back , so bad, in the end if i have the money i will
yea man I miss my MT big time since I'm sharing my car with my girl and she can't drive MT.
but yea, keep looking. If they have a car with a cracked bumper on their lot, chances are they are shady and will try to screw you at every turn.

the bumper at first glance looks fine.
But the car ran over a parking block on the middle black section that holds the fog lights is really cracked and broken. As well as the middle of the bumper on the underside. These things are noticable unless your looking for them and not just glancing at the car.
I want a manual because i'm young and i love to drive. I know when i'm older and have a family and such, the wife won't allow it. So i need to get the race driver out of my system while i still can. Or i'll be buying an automatic vett when i'm 60. and no one wants that.

They just want to make money, sell your car off yourself and buy a new one. Shouldnt be to hard. The swap is a waste of money going from a sohc auto to mt. why dump all that cash to stay @ the same HP

[QUOTE=Nitto] Well actually I wouldn't be staying at the same HP. if were talking about usable HP. Then the MT has more then the AT. I could see a 10-15HP gain at the wheels.
