Please Help. Too Many options.

Hey,

Ok, this post is rather long and detailed. Ypu have been warned. I need some advice and suggestions, plain and simple.

Background:

I have a 2001 Honda Civic (duh) which can be seen here - Member's Ride

As some of you may know, by a post I made about 1 month ago. I was seriously considering in buying a Subaru WRX 2002. Its a bad *** car, bottom line. But is it for me.

Then I start thinking, if I was to get the WRX, I would have to give up my Civic. Which I was okay with until, I let my bro have the car for the weekend. Thats when I really started to miss the car.

Anyway, I have completely scrapped the idea of giving the Civic up for more then just "missing it". The civic is a beast when it comes to gas mileage. I drive about 500 miles per week and getting a Subaru instead of a Civic would not be suitable in terms of the mileage.

So, I want to keep my Civic as my daily driver but get another car for preformance and city driving.

After some researching, I am seriously considering on this option - Buying a used 1992-1995 (5th Gen) Honda Civic Hatchback. Preferrably VX or SI. Hopefully the 1992 for about $2000.00 (Cash in hand) then doing the following:

- Complete Engine Swap B16(If money is tight) or B18C1 (Preferred)

Then modding up the bad-boy.

Right now, I have the money for the car and swap(B16), its about $5000-$6000. Then I have about $500-800 a month to spend on the car.

Now is this a viable option? I would classify this as an investment/hobby. Would doing this be good in the long term of a car, how long should I expect a car with this age and mileage (probaly close to 100K) to last?

Is there anything else I should do? I really could just start and put everything in savings. But I really do not want to. I want to enjoy life and preformance is what I want.

I also could just save up and put a huge down into a Mitsubushi Lancer EVO VII or a Subaru STi when the come out next year.

I don't know, decisions - decisions.

Ray

Sounds to me like you have some good ideas there. The decision is up to you however. If you get the EG, don't throw the B16 in there if you are going for performance. The EG's are much heavier than the EF's (88-91 civic's). If I were you (which I'm not) and I was in to performance and was really hyped on a project car, go for the EG with the GSR engine (B18C). You will be more than happy with the outcome. The STI or the EVO isn't a bad idea either and saving is always a good idea! Right now I am looking for (and almost have) a CRX and am planning on doing the B16 swap in the summer time. I am mainly doing this to save the milage on my civic and to be able to say that I own a realitively fast car. Hybrids can be fun, especially if they are sleepers! People will never know what you have!! Like I said the choice is yours! Be wise!

your idea is good, but think about. the 5th gen civic is the most "tuned" car out there.
anyone that even thinks about modding a car, thinks about the civic. it is way over done.
i am also thinking about trading in my 2k1 civic for a used honda (i dont want to give it away yet)
so that i can mod it. it isn't a civic. try a 240sx with a SR20DET engine or something if you have the
"build up bug". if you just want a fast car then the WRX or the EVO is a great choice. personally i would
wait til the EVO comes out, that thing is bad ***.

Do it, to hell with the scooby, however dont get the Si if you do...its one of the heaviest if not the heaviest, get VX or CX they are lightest with the VX being the lightest...if you really want to be an @sshole drop the B16B or B18C5 in and have a real Type R and do a conversion...thats what Id do..but either way you will have a phat ride

If you do go with the hatch, milage doesn't really matter since you're swapping engine, tranny, etc

As for the EVO vs hatch...it's probably worth waiting in the end, but I guess it all depends on how much money/patience you have.

Me and my bro are working on a 98 CX (base base model)hatch with an auto. we only paid 7k for it with 32k on it. the great thing about the hatch is that its simple, light, and freaking huge inside. personally, i think i like it better than the 01. we are opting for a b16a (due to price) and later plans include the vortech sc with aftercooler. we arent sure if we want to go for the b18b. so far we have a magnaflow cb, sri, plugs and what not for the crappy sohc, beater rims, co's, and a 00' SI cluster. i have researched this alot so if you want some help, email me at : blouisgod@yahoo.com later, brad
