dry sump is one of two popular ways to lubricate engines....the other is wet sump
the difference is in wet sump (which we have)...the oil drain to the base of the engine and then an oil pickup (usually located bout 1/4" from bottom of oil pan) lubricates the motor..in a dry sump the oil still falls to the base of the engine..but then is usually pumped to a resovior by pumps that are run off the crank...because the oil pan doesnt need to house the oil pickup it can be smaller , you can carry more engine oil with a bigger resovoir--more oil = cooloer engine...the small profile pan let you run the engine closer to the ground without risk of damaging the oil pickup if it ran over something which leads to a lower center of gravity...some stuff might be off im not really a certfiied mechanic or anything nah...i think you're pretty much right on there...i'm not a mechanic or anything either, but your reasoning seems sound to me. plus it matches up with everything else i do know about dry/wet sump systems. +1 rep for you!!

No those are the audio and video caption equipment.
Now why would anyone be silly enough to put an extra engine in the passenger seat
