Yup get an alternator for an si. 5-30 oil or even 5-20 will work. Make sure you match up the connectors on the alternator before purchasing. If the motor is old dont use 5-20.

the motor is pretty new.. previous owner is using 10-30... thanks alot foffie!! I will probably take out the alternator first and bring it to kragen or autozone to match the connectors.. how hard is it? to do the alternator?
shortly after I turn on the car.. the idle is really low almost dying... that should be the alternator right? coz I already tried to put different battery for it...

before you go buying a civic si alt just because they have b16's in them you might wanna take out yours and look at an integra of the same year's alt. the only reason i say this is my friend had me put an alt in his 91 civic hatchback b16 swap and it took a 93 integra alt. just food for thought

^^ yea that's a good thinking.. I was thinkin about that too.. but how hard is it too take it off? because I'm afraid that on my way to the shop my car will just stop in the middle of the road... everytime I turn it on.. it's almost dying... idle is really low..

Its a pretty easy job. The only hard part is taking the alternator out after its un-bolted un less you want to take off the axels. If you dont you get to move the alternator through a maze of rods and engine parts but it will come out. And just so you know idling low may not be an alternator. Go to kragen and have them test it out on your car. I use to work there. Its a free service done right on the vehicle. But idlin low can be a # of things including timing, bad sensors, plugs, wires, distributor blah blah blah. And the alternator rarely has anything to do with your rpms being low. Your just feeding electricity to the car. But test it out anyway just to make sure. and how many miles are on the motor and the car?? Oh and as far as prices. Honda is as a rule of thumb cheaper than acura parts. I did the research when i worked there. And acura and honda engines although made by the same people have different bolt patterns, amps, and wiring. Dont know why but the do. That only for alternators though and some starters. and im now rambling..........

its not hard to take off. loosen the bolts you can get at from the top then jack up the car and pull it out from under. once you have it off look on ebay for pics of the alt.

As far as I know it has B16a2... I will double check... well, I'm afraid to go to kragen though because I don't wanna drive and all of the sudden car will stop/stall... that happened to me... same thing as Autozone though right? do will test it for me? coz thats more near.... I don't know.. just afraid my car will stop in the middle of the road...

the teg is 92... yea I tested my alternator by turning on the car and disconnecting the GROUND (black wire) terminal from the battery.. and the car was STILL ON.. that means nothing is wrong with the alternator.... so WHAT OTHER THINGS CAN CAUSE THIS? When it comes under the hood.. I only know very little about it... somebody said it might be the TIMING? or maybe something else.. damn!
I notice after I disconnected the ground terminal from the battery.. it went back to regular idle.. but the engine sounds different now... its just like it is having a hard time to breath or something... what's wrong?

the engine's prolly just effed up b/c the car was running w/o a filter. thats a sign that you should not have bought it. that shows that the previous owner did not take car of the car at all...i'll do some reasearch later on tomorrow and get back to you---(bestfriend has that kinda swap in his teg---we deal w/ those kinda problems a good amount)

well when I bought the car from him... while he was doing the swap he told me that he also change the pistons, bearings bla bla bla in the engine... so the engine's pretty much new... I had mah friend checked it up.. it seemed to be fine... and I can't even floor it because the engine hasn't broken it yet.. I tried to call the previous owner he said he never have that kind of problem before... I'm gonna have to get somebody to check my car out...
