leaving car for 3 weeks, what to do?

Anything I should really do before leaving it? I got someone watching for thieves but how about mechanical stuff or anything I should do before starting it 3 weeks from now...thanks

before starting it i would say prime the fuel system first to keep it from a ruff start.

Ask someone to start it once a week and let it run for like 5 minutes.

Just 3 weeks?? Take the battery out. Or nothing. I frequently don't drive mine for a month, and it starts right up. That's not a long time to store. 6 months... yeah, but not 3 weeks. They often sit longer at the dealer lot!

That's actually WORSE for the engine, since it never gets hot enough to evaporate moisture, etc. Then you stop it, and it condenses MORE moisture.

No, a month is ok without starting the engine. Then, when you do start it, DRIVE it so it gets to full temp.

Thats what i thought. And I always try to bring it to temp when I drive it even if that means going the longer way. When I get back I'll just warm it up and take it to the freeway for a while.

Titleist71 can only hope to improve
If it sits in one spot for a while I would add some tire press. My STi is stored and I put 50 lbs in them while it just sits there. Especially now that it is cold out.

Stuff oily rags in the exhaust pipe. Really.

Make sure nothing crawls up the exhaust to live as mentioned above. Maybe over inflate the tires a wee bit, though I've seen bikes stored over the winter on their tires for 4 months w.out jack stands and they don't have any flat spots. I'd recommend to maybe change the oil, just to get any corrosive contaminants out of the system, but even thats probably not necessary. I've left a car for a month befor when I went to Greece, came back, needed an extra crank to start, but was okay, just let it warm up for a bit.

Its 3 weeks, not months.
I'd fill the gas tank so there's no room for water to evaporate in there, park it in a lit area and leave it alone. As long as its not sitting long enough to qualify for the holiday rule (start it at Thanksgiving, Christmas, MLK, Presidents day and Easter) just park it and leave it. Mine will be in the same place from last weekend until new years, I didn't do anything special.

Even if you're worried about engine moisture, you don't have to wait for the engine to go up to the middle for it to evaporate condensed water. They're droplets in there, not huge puddles. Running it for a couple minutes (say five) should be plenty.

3 weeks is nothing. Just park it in a safe place like under a streetlight at a place that has a lot of activity (although colleges during Christmas break are typically ghost towns). Lock out the trunk release to make it that much harder in case someone does break into the passenger compartment. Getting a car cover wouldn't hurt either.
