Insurance Issues

My friend got his car broken into and his alpine headunit stolen. Sadly he has no documentation that it was installed. Here is the question.

I have a similar head unit, would it be a bad idea to give him my receipt for it so he can use it with his insurance company so they will cover his damages? What are the odds that I'm gonna get screwed here, and what are the odds that he's gonna get screwed?

Well, if anything goes wrong with yours, you're screwed if you give it to him. If the police ever find it, they won't be able to match it with reciept because its your reciept.

I think it is a bad idea. Although I don't think the insurance company will know the difference.

well his insurance will need a police report, so if he didn't file one, he is screwed.

The best he can do is say that you bought it for him as a gift. I don't know how it goes with not having a police report though.

Where'd it get stolen from?

Where did he buy his? What head unit is it? If its still made then they will just give you the price it costs now. He still has a deductible, so he may not get much. He should have filed a police report ASAP because thats the first question the adjuster will ask.
