So, as some of you may know, its time to part with my 7th Gen.
So far I've narrowed my choices to 2 cars as my next ride:
2002-2005 RSX Type S

Or the
2000-2005 MR-S

Two whole different car classes I know, but they've been nagging at my mind for some time now. RSX's price has dropped drastically and performance wise, its not bad at all.
The MR-S however has the looks I love (some of you may disagree), and being a RWD, and an MR, it is... iono... "kick-butt?" I also love the feeling of open top (during the summer of course.)
I am mostly concerned with the cars reliability. I really dont want to go out of my way every so often and fix this and that from a certain car. (I think the MR-S is more low maintanance than the RSX, but I might be wrong)
Price wise, they are both near the same more or less.
<EDIT> Oh. btw.. forgot about insurance. Anyone know which one is more expensive for a 18-20 year old guy?
But yeah. Just wanted to hear your opinions before I go out and do something rash.

me personally i would go for the rsx-s cuz i know more about it, the mr-2? i dunno, dont like the looks that well. Just judging off of the looks, wouldn't it be harder to boost it cuz the engine is in the rear and wont get anywhere near as much airflow?

I can understand the looks for the MR-S is an "acquired taste" <-- -I know I spelled that wrong, so sue me.
As for boost? Eh... Not planning to do it. Im scared sh*tless when coming to boosting cars that were meant to be NA. Don't wanna screw the car more than I have to.
The most I'll prolly do is I/H/E and bolt-ons.

I plan to be having the car for a long long time.
As for kids, heelllll no. Also, I dont have any friends so, me and myself are the only ones to be concerned with.
Thanks for the heads up though. Been thinking about those things too.
Heh. I also like the MKII's. Love them actually... But I felt like hopping on the "21'st century and up" bandwagon.

I'm not so sure about toyota's reliability but I know an acura will last. Plus the mr is just so SMALL. The type-s will prolly have a much cleaner interior too, being an acura.
Type-s, just my opinion.

I sure wish my car was newer

Dude... assuming you don't need a very practical car, I wouldn't hesitate to get the MR-S.
I've loved those things for years and would LOVE to have one.
Oh, and Toyota cars are actually more reliable than Hondas. (Honda is verrrrrrry close though, so it's really a non-issue).

Type S
pro
good resale value
good power
good reliability
big enough to haul stuff once in awhile
decent mileage
fit and finish tends to be better
lot of engine parts available
con
still fwd
a lot of people have one
mr2
pro
rwd
more neutral handling
unique look
toyota reliablity
resale value decent
quick
con
too small to carry anything
underpowered toward the top end
Insurance will be about the same for both cars. If you have AAA, they classify both cars as sports cars so you'll still be paying up the **** for insurance.
I vote for the typeS for a daily communter. If you get the mr2 i would take some autocross or track classes. The mr2 tends to have a more neutral handling because of the midengine design so a lot of people can't handling it. Especially if your coming from a civic which tends to understeer a lot.

hm.. after seeing the kitted MR2, they don't look bad at all, but the question is are you going to go as far as to fully kit the car and get the whole deal? i personally like the 05-06 rsx-s, the way they look i mean (headlights/taillights) but then yea, too many people have them, well atleast in socal, i see them more often than not

Just last week my alternator just screwy. That was the last straw for me. So.. after I get that replaced, its off to autotrader it goes.
If your gonna go with the type-s, I would jus get an engine swap on your vic
But if you prefer the whole car, I would still choose the type-s, for praticality and I think it looks better then the MR-S.

bah, screw the mr-s! if you're looking for a hot coupe, go for a s2000!
and if i had to choose between a s2k and rsx-s, i'd pick an s2k. but if it was between a mr-s and rsx-s, i'd pick the rsx-s b/c of the 4 seats

^ i would go for the s2k, however it is beyond my budget. More or less >$5,000 than the mr-s or the k20.
theres that, and the insurance. Although I dont think the insurance would be drastically higher than the mr-s or the rsx, it would be higher im sure.
