painting engine bay
ok so i want to paint my engine bay sometime next year, and now is my research stage. so i figure i would ask here first.
whos had it done?
do shops do it or am i better off doing it myself?
how much is it- cost wise with everything?
i want to get it painted SSM to match the car.
1. spark plug cover
2. fuse cover
3. battery tie down
4. spark plug ignition pack covers
5. hood pole
6. clutch and brake caps
and i also want to get all the wires and **** covered with silver. like a trim kit for the engine.
any suggestions? add or take off the list? thanx in advance
when i do it ill post up pics.

stupid sooner and buckeye fans...he is trying to go for an all single color car...IMO i dunno about doing the plastic on the inside of the bay might be better to get someone to photoshop you a pic of what you want first so you get an idea (also to give the shop a better understanding of what you want done)....the things you're talking about would probably be better for a show car to have done not a daily driver....cuz you risk rub off and marring from fluids, dust and debris, as well as if you like to wash your bay...I dunno this is just my opinion.....

I would just do it myself, its not that hard if you have a clean dry heated place for itm but real painting equipment is pricey. In fact you can get a primer, SSM paint, and a clearcoat in aerosol cans. One can around here costs about 13 bucks at a paint shop, the primer and clear are about 5 bucks each.

thanks!!
I painted some of my engine bay in red. I have some older pics at home before the SRI and such, ill post them tonight if you wanna see.The battery tie down was the hardest part, it seems like its rubber coated or something. I think this is the dress up kit he was referring to. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Stain...spagenameZWD1V
its all about prep work. if you want it to look good and last its all about the prep work. you also need to make sure you get a good amount of clear if you want it to last. a wire loom kit and a braided hose kit will help the rest of the hoses and wiring you want to work on. its not hard just time consuming and tedious. make sure you take the time needed too. if you try to rush it you will be disappointed at the outcome.
