Coming from someone who has HID's, trust me, they are cool as hell. Everyone looks at your car when you got 'em, and they let you see SOOO clearly at night. But they are expensive. I mean it's like 200 bucks just to replace a bulb. So it all depends on what you want to do. but I will tell you, they will look cool as hell on a civic. I've never seen a civic with them on, so if anyone gets pics, let me know!
<< so about how much does it cost for a real HID system juss curious
i'm not into the lighting thing and i dunn really care but juss curious >>
VoiceofId was telling me about a HID system he found for $470. not sure the details on it though.

For a "real" HID system that is actually decent, or for lights like those in the S2000 you are probably looking at about $1000. That's if you are looking for high quality.

i saw this here at school, but couldnt reply yesterday.... anyway
To the topic, those Catz Zeta stuff makes ur bulbs fry at least twice as fast, you are pushing more wattage to it, it's techniqually illegal and you can melt your housing, rubber/plastic/silicone. On the otherhand, True HID ranges from 500-900 dollars a set, which improve 30% visibility, uses 1/2 of the power of an average halogen bulb and runs not as cold as a standard bulb either!
Now, to Ben's comment, I found a group buy on groupbuycenter.com for Philips True HID plug n' play set for 470 dollars shipped, I think that's a great deal, and can't wait till I save enough money to buy it!

Voiceofid it is true that hid's use half the wattage (average of 35 watts at warmup and lower than 35 after), but with that in mind it doesn't get half as hot as a halogen either. I've put my HID's on for hours just to burn them in to a nice purple and they never once got even half as hot as my stocks or piaa xtreme whites. Kits range from anywhere from $375- a good grand or so. I got my kit, which is a composite osram ballast and philips d2r bulb for a nice 450 at a local shop in Jersey.
Dave d2s bulbs are the same bulbs that come in stock hid cars like audi, s2000, acura and bmw's. The only difference between a d2s(stock bulb) and a d2r (retrofit bulb) bulb is a strip of ceramic coating on the outside of the external quartz glass. The purpose of this coating is to control the amount of lumens on a retrofit and also to eliminate some glare. D2s bulbs are about 2000 lumens brighter than d2r bulbs as a result. I also heard a number of complaints about the jdm philips ultinons. They do have a higher kelvin scale than the regular philips kit, but also have less luminosity meaning its throws less usable light on the road. Kits like k2, vision and Hanabe are the best on the market today and whats best about them is you could grab a set for about $450- $550.
