mwwhonda 02-11-2002 09:19 AM

if its not real hids...it aint gona look like real hids. thats why they make hids.....plus hids use less energy and create less heat...those bulbs in that link must heat up like a MOFO!

S2000man01 02-11-2002 11:29 AM

Coming from someone who has HID's, trust me, they are cool as hell. Everyone looks at your car when you got 'em, and they let you see SOOO clearly at night. But they are expensive. I mean it's like 200 bucks just to replace a bulb. So it all depends on what you want to do. but I will tell you, they will look cool as hell on a civic. I've never seen a civic with them on, so if anyone gets pics, let me know!

uicmedruss 02-11-2002 11:36 AM

you know, even if they were exactly the same color as HIDs, there's no way you'd get the brightness of HID out of a 100w bulb...

CoupeStylz 02-11-2002 12:35 PM

What the hell is that kit? How does it work? It seems like a lot of $$ for a regular light bulb system. I would just save up for a real HID myself (used).

VoiceofId was telling me about a HID system he found for $470. not sure the details on it though.

S2000man01 02-12-2002 12:55 PM

For a "real" HID system that is actually decent, or for lights like those in the S2000 you are probably looking at about $1000. That's if you are looking for high quality.

Voiceofid 02-12-2002 12:55 PM

i saw this here at school, but couldnt reply yesterday.... anyway

To the topic, those Catz Zeta stuff makes ur bulbs fry at least twice as fast, you are pushing more wattage to it, it's techniqually illegal and you can melt your housing, rubber/plastic/silicone. On the otherhand, True HID ranges from 500-900 dollars a set, which improve 30% visibility, uses 1/2 of the power of an average halogen bulb and runs not as cold as a standard bulb either!

Now, to Ben's comment, I found a group buy on groupbuycenter.com for Philips True HID plug n' play set for 470 dollars shipped, I think that's a great deal, and can't wait till I save enough money to buy it!

Voiceofid 02-12-2002 12:58 PM

and it is here 470 dollars a set, 6000k Philips True Xenon Gas powered H.I.D. kit

I thin Philips is pretty relieable... so I'll definitly get myself a set!

UncleB 02-12-2002 12:58 PM

and with a name like Philips, you can't go wrong.

Voiceofid 02-12-2002 08:00 PM

that's right!:)

Dave 02-12-2002 08:57 PM

Right now, they only have d2s bulbs though, which is why I didn't get it. also, if you look carefully at the pic, the bulbs aren't Philips Ultinons like they claim.:shake:

Voiceofid 02-12-2002 09:55 PM

whats the difference?

showoff 02-12-2002 10:28 PM

<< On the otherhand, True HID ranges from 500-900 dollars a set, which improve 30% visibility, uses 1/2 of the power of an average halogen bulb and runs not as cold as a standard bulb either! >>

Voiceofid it is true that hid's use half the wattage (average of 35 watts at warmup and lower than 35 after), but with that in mind it doesn't get half as hot as a halogen either. I've put my HID's on for hours just to burn them in to a nice purple and they never once got even half as hot as my stocks or piaa xtreme whites. Kits range from anywhere from $375- a good grand or so. I got my kit, which is a composite osram ballast and philips d2r bulb for a nice 450 at a local shop in Jersey.

Dave d2s bulbs are the same bulbs that come in stock hid cars like audi, s2000, acura and bmw's. The only difference between a d2s(stock bulb) and a d2r (retrofit bulb) bulb is a strip of ceramic coating on the outside of the external quartz glass. The purpose of this coating is to control the amount of lumens on a retrofit and also to eliminate some glare. D2s bulbs are about 2000 lumens brighter than d2r bulbs as a result. I also heard a number of complaints about the jdm philips ultinons. They do have a higher kelvin scale than the regular philips kit, but also have less luminosity meaning its throws less usable light on the road. Kits like k2, vision and Hanabe are the best on the market today and whats best about them is you could grab a set for about $450- $550.

Toronto 02-13-2002 01:02 AM

Philips Xenon Light

Dave 02-13-2002 01:27 PM

Yeah, since H4 bulbs have low and high beam integrated into 1 bulb, the base of the bulb has to be covered like D2Rs otherwise it's like the high beam are always on.

Voiceofid 02-13-2002 01:55 PM

i meant to say it doesn't run as hot as the halegen blubs, my bad on that part.. i was watching tv while i was typing that out

Matrix 02-13-2002 05:35 PM

What does HID stand for?

Voiceofid 02-13-2002 07:17 PM

High Intensity Discharge

Nes06 02-15-2002 04:03 PM
