well other than the gas being alot more, its a great car. my sister had an SL for a few weeks as a rental when getting her accord repaired from an accident.
the car had an excellent ride, and excellent pickup. The interior is solid, and built very very well. The overall feel of the car is great.
On the down side the stereo is nothing all that great. could be better considering civics get nicer stereos now. That roof is really fvcking stupid looking too. Its quite large and a tad bit hard to manuver through parking lots with. And lastly, the damn headlights are aimed really high but that won't bother you, just everyone else.
all around its a great cheaper luxury car and its different from the other cars in the class. For the price you pay you are getting alot.

Yeah the stereo on the SE model which is used for rental is okay but the model I plan on getting is an SL it comes with the Bose sound system and xenon lights as well as leather interior. I did rented one few months ago for the weekend I also used it on Monday to go to work in. After driving that car for few days I did not feel like driving mine. Are you sure your sister had the SL because the rental places usually rents out the less expensive model like SE for the Maxima

yeah they are great cars. and i dont understand how they are the same price as the better altimas. the altima is the identity crisis car, not sporty but tries to be. not luxurious but tries.
anyway the maxima is a step up, so i am surprised that it does not cost more. w/e though, thats good for maxima buyers.
well if you get one enjoy it!

good point on the avalon. the touring and xls's are great cars. look alot more expensive than they are too. i think the maxima looks like its $30,000 which it is. but the toyota looks like a $50,000 car and its only around $30,000.

Maxima's are great cars! and the VQ engine will last! In the past models though, the Max's used beam axle rear suspension set up based on the Max from the early 90's... I dont know if it's still that way... I hope not....
I would'nt mine having an Avalon I also thought about buying one but where I live I've seen alot of older people driving these cars 50+ years old. Also Toyota's here don't like going down on prices. Nissan's tend to work out a good deal. My dad's friend bought an 05 SL Maxima around Sept. and he paid like $27,800 plus he had the drivers prefered package option that costs around $1000.00 extra.
^^ i agree with you.. i've seen a lot of older ppl driving it but this one really changed my view about 'em... anyway, maxima's are hot... i say go for it then. By the way, they look nice in black!

I also driven the Altima and there is the difference between that and the Maxima. Many people told me to go with Altima because it is cheaper but as far as ride quality it is way different. The Maxima has alot less road noise than the Altima. Plus the build quality inside is better in the Maxima than the Altima.

There is a new one for 07

Our latest spy photos reveal the upcoming 2007 Nissan Maxima, a long-time stalwart in the company's North American lineup. For the next incarnation of this vehicle, Nissan will be positioning the Maxima to compete more directly with the likes of the Toyota Avalon and Chrysler 300C.
Traditionally, Nissan has positioned the Maxima as a sportier competitor in the large sedan segment. The recent Touring edition of the Avalon, with an equivalent engine to the Maxima, has robbed Nissan's premier sedan of quite a bit of its glory, though — a situation Nissan is looking to rectify with the 2007 model year Maxima.
While little is likely to change in terms of the Maxima's engine, the car will receive a considerable makeover that is bound to enhance both its interior and exterior appearance. The 2007 Maxima will retain its FF-L front-drive platform, although the facelift already evident in these photos should give the car a more mainstream appeal as well as further distinguish it from the midsize Altima.
In addition to the intended sheet metal changes, Nissan will also rebuild the Maxima's cabin from the ground up, bringing this vehicle up to true flagship status within the company's lineup. Higher-quality interior materials will likely be joined by more advanced electronics, including a greater use of telematics.
Nissan will continue to build the Maxima in Smyrna, Tennessee, and the company might even bring out a hybrid version of the vehicle sometime around 2009 as a companion to the already-planned Altima hybrid.
Look for the 2007 Nissan Maxima in the fall of 2006.

The Maxima is a nice car. My favorite one were the 2002 and 2003 models, those were the right size for that car. The new one is larger, but its still a great car, just the price. You were able to get a base SE 2003 model with a 6 speed and sunroof for under $25k, can't get that now, you have to buy an Altima for that price.
At $30k and under, I would consider a Maxima, but over that, there are better cars available.

why do they always try to use black tape and the likes to cover 3% of the next year cars when they're on the road? people can see the car they know what it is why make it so damn obvious?
