how to drive a stick
well, i am about to get a 6 speed spec v very soon. But i haven't drive a manual before. I know the hardest part is to start the car from the 1st gear. Can anyone tell me what's the best way to start from idle? and can i just put my car to neutral if i am in 4th or 5th gear if i have to come to complete stop?
This is noting that can be explained over the computer for you. Its all feeling the way the clutch moves and geting a feel for the car yourself. Different cars drive different ways.
aight heres the deal...
getting started... foot on clutch... arm on shifter... push the clutch in, shift to 1st... then put your right foot on the gas and rev it up a bit.. like a little over 1000rpm... maybe 1500 then slowly let out the clutch and you'll feel it start to grab and the engine will kind of lower in the RPMs... then give it some more gas and you'll feel that the clutch is up all the wya and your moving... then rev it to like 3500 or 4000 shift to second... same thing but a bit easier... clutch in, shift to second... let up a bit fast giving the engne some gas... not letting it drop back to idle again... if the engine is at idle cause you were too slow slowly let up ont he clutch so you don't hurt it. same as third and forth... now when stopping... just push in the clutch pull the shifter out of gear and use your brakelike you normaly would... if you leave it in gear it'll die on you. best thing to do is find a LARGE parking lot and just practice stopping and going... you should pick up on it quick... i taught a friend of mine and she picked it up pretty quick. just make sure your parking lot iss empty and no random objects like those parking block thingys that stop you from rolling into the car ifnront of you or garbage cans... don't worry too much if you stall its not THAT bad for the car... jus don't do it tooooooo much... cause remember you are basicly just stoping the engine in its tracks.... its like you running and someone putting a wall up infront of you.

i heard that 99% of the time they don't have manual transmission car for rent because they assume everyone want auto for convenient, so i might just try a driver school. But they charge me 70 bucks(cdn) for 2 hours

im sooo jealous. my friend just bought a blue spec v. that thing has sooo much power. id trade my civic in for one of those in a heartbeat. but i love my civ. good luck w/ the stick. youll enjoy that car alot. have fun I didn't know how to drive a stick until I bought my '88 RX-7. I only paid $800 for it, so it didn't matter that I couldn't drive a stick. Since we have a house in the country, my parents drove it there so that I wouldn't be takin' up valuable driveway space here. I just drove over there one day...told my mom I was going to get some stuff. Hehe. Then I just drove it through the country for about a half an hour. I learned within the first five minutes and spent the other 25 doing a couple of burnouts and driving 100+ Mph through the country...scaring every cow I drove by.

i learned on my 88 dodge omni. that clutch was a bitch to learn on because it grabbed so high, took me a few months before i was completely used to it. i didnt drive it that much back then though. i think i could have learned it a lot faster on a car with a better clutch.
