im poor but i do it right. if your that ghetto go get some custom 2.5 pipe with some connectors. go grab a mesh filter to put at the end. what your describing is just treating your car wrong.

my advice after all i've been through, leave it stock and save for a turbo. you can get small parts after you save enough and put them away for later. some stuff you can do that will actually be better for turbo is catback exhaust and ported throttle body.

no the part that you removed is a resonator. it makes the intake quiet and charges the cylinders with air better at low rpm. it won't hurt, just take away some hp. but yea just put it back on.

Even better advice than saving up money for your car wich will most likely still be a FWD car in the end, is saving up money for a new car. Keep the Civic untill the tranny falls out and the motor is spewing oil when it starts. By that time you should have more than enough money to buy a sports car, or at least but a down payment on a used one if you can't afford a new one.

www.maxbore.com does amazing work and only $105 shipped. You send the original, he ports in 3 days and puts a bigger butterfly valve and mails it back in 3 days.
