Engine Modifications

Being a new member, I spent some time searching the postings as well as members' rides. Lots of nice cars out there. However, could not really find anything about specific engine modifications that actually increased performance. What I would like to know are the best engine modifications that provide enhanced performance for the best bang for the buck. Preferably, this would be proved by test track results, ie. improved 0-60 times, quarter mile, etc, not simply repeating advertising claims of '...increases horsepower by 4-5hp...,' etc. Any suggestions from the intake to the exhaust would be appreciated.

Please, no flames, just credible information. Currently own 2k1 Civic EX with 5spd MT, completely stock without any modifications.

Also, was considering starting another new topic on suspension/wheels/tires modifications, again, only those that actually improve performance, not the 'looks' of the car. Increased lateral g's on the skid pad. Mods obviously would include anti-roll/sway bars, fatter tires, lowering the car, etc.

Definitely start with intake, exhaust, and a header. After that you could get a set of underdrive pullies, I think Unorthodox has their set out. The most bang for the buck is obviously a nitrous system though.

Here, nobody knows about these parts yet, so this will be the most original performace scheme yet.......AEM CAI, DC Header, DC TCS Exhaust, AEM power pulleys, DC Sports strut tower bar, rear lower tie bar, battery tie-down, and oil cap, Neuspeed springs, Koni shocks, 17" rims, 205/40/17 tires, etc., etc.

start with the intake, that's your best bet, then work to header and exhaust. once you get there, the little things will add a bit of power, but I/H/E will do the best.

I think people are pretty much pointing you in the right direction. Collectively, an intake, exhaust and header will give you a pretty good increase in HP. Once you start gettin into the good stuff like MSD, fuel pressure regulator, port and polished head, pulleys, and any type of forced induction...then the difference will be pretty big. If you plan on goin N/A...then you gotta open up that motor and work it.
