Yeah, I kinda feel ya on that one...A couple of "Chevy" guys at work always give me hell about driving a souped up civic, because all the jackass, wigger acting, idiots that are around here that drive imports with Folger coffee can exhaust..It goes both ways...If you drive a nice, tasteful import, your labeled as rice..
ive heard that they explode into a giant ball of fire if you press a certain button combo on the dash.............
no, but really, i hate it for the same reson you want it. its a neon thats already fast, so all the neon lovers that buy it are going to drive it w/ an attitude

I would not believe the car itself has any major problem.
Just that domestic companies are new in the tuned compact sedan scene, so it is hard for them to gain popularity in the younger import fans where most turbo-compact buyers are in.
Most mature men/women (over 30) who has money would not purchase a turbo compact, for them they are just like regular compact and they would only compare the practicalness of the compact cars, so they won't understand about the price of the SRT-4.
As a result, only young rednack driver with bad financial credit and bad driving attitude ends up with SRT-4 and this futher decrease the popularity of this car.

^^^ actually, I feel a small # of mature men/women would buy a turbo compact. In NYC, not only 20's something year olds are driving WRX/Sti/XT Forester. And these 3 cars are fairly compact compared to most of the cars in the market.
See, Dodge placed a damn low price on the SRT-4 so 16 year olds can get a hand on it....... and yeah.... what 16 year old male wuold properly drive a turbo Neon?

It is not about the car itslef, it is about the company name in this specific type of car.

Two Things.... Turbo and Front wheel Drive... Just a bad combination in my opinion.
not to mention the need to dial in positive rear camber to get the car to rotate.... Sure it can be tweakd to handle pretty well, just like most cars... But stock, its designed for one thing and one thing only... Going in straight lines.
Well, the interior does stink.. it's not all too pretty.. BUT.. it's not meant to be pretty. It's cheap and FAST.. toss in some extra money and it gets REALLY fast.. (Mopar stage3 turbo upgrade) which is really bolt on and go.. no tricky tuning, and the dealer can install it for you. If you buy toys, you have a race gas switch.. fill up on 100 octane, and flip the switch.. whammo, you've got some 300+ HP on tap with a car you 'could' drive every single day, even in the winter. YES.. it's a hotrod engine/driveline in a crappy car.. thats the intent. Comes with LSD, and strong driveline.. Yeah, most people do replace the clutch and motor mounts, as well as needing to get an oil catch can. Small price to pay for a low 12 sec daily driver 4 cylinder I'd say.
wrap it up; The car is for someone who wants a fast 'tuner car' without needing the vast budget and experience level to build one. I got to cruise in a stock one, and it did make me interested in buying one. If I buy one, I will keep my civic.. the SRT IS just a toy car.. it's sorta like having a sportbike, but not really.. just a play thing, somthing to have fun with that is affordable to most of us. I can't see having it as my ONLY car, but I imagine that it would be a great ride with S3R + clutch.
Our civics are basically the dead opposite of the SRT. Honda builds our cars to be RELIABLE. Last a long time with very few problems, not built to work well with mods, and not intended to ever go fast.
The SRT is designed with dealer installed mods! It's built to be upgraded and go fast. Lasting a long, problem-free life is not on the top of the list.. hauling *** and basically stealing up and dominating a good portion of the tuner market is what it's for. Opposite design intention of our rides.
Thumbs up to Dodge for having some ***** and taking a gamble making the car. I guess they don't have much of a good reputation to tarnish to begin with... but this is the first Dodge made in my lifetime I've actually considered buying. Bout time they did somthing good, right?

My friend has an SRT-4, and I love driving it, but there are some things I do not like.

I hate those cars...my friend owns a neon and he thinks its the best car ever made and that its so much better than my car...oh yeah except my car looks and performs better ha ha! Funny thing about SRT-4 owners is they'll never say "Neon SRT-4", cuz they know its still a stupid neon. That's why the neon got discontinued ha ha!!! American cars should look like American cars, leave the import scene to...7thgens!!!! lol thought I was gonna say something else?

I had a guy in like a 94-95 neon at a gas station tell me that his car was faster than mine, because(in his exact words) "the SRT-4 is faster than a civic."

the only thing I like about the SRT...are the Tires.... BFG G-force T/a Kdw's *droOols...has a seizure...sips some ebay bought vintage Surge cola, and chills again*
those tires if they wer wider than the 205/50r17 they wouldn't look so awkward...I'd take the brand and model of tire not the size....
<<<Reaction of SRT-4 owner learning that it's just a neon....

<<<Reaction of SRT-4 owner learning that it's just a neon.... Well the motor is..Designed and built in Mexico, refined by Americans (who changed some cooling, reduced boost, and adjusted the PCM), the 2.4 can be tweaked to increase power but was restricted in Mexican vehicles to lower insurance costs. the 2.4 Turbo engine, is Mexican, build in Mexico, engineered by Mexicans and refined by Americans and Germans.
If I was to buy another American car, it wouldnt be low end. No matter how you look at it, the SRT is on the neon platform. Look at cavi's...look at neons... they dont last.
Id say in 2 or 3 years you'll be able to see rust. I know my 02 alero was starting to rust...ontop of that there was about 3500$ worth of repairs to be done on it....and the resale sucks.
Before I bought my vic, I was looking at a sentra se-r spec V.... those are quick, the owners might be cocky... But Id rather be seen in a spec-V then an srt-4....
Neons dont last...Period
Go Honda!
