Yup the salesperson suckered me
OK here's the deal...
I got the 05 for 14,400. Yeah that's probably too much because I didn't dicker at all.
I got called by Honda for a post purchase survey and I mentioned my issue here, and it actually got back to the dealer! Woah. He called me back and said the reason why they said the 06 was 4k more was because they are only selling the LX because once they get the DX and add a/c and a stereo to it, then its too close to the LX. So they aren't getting any DXs in. So that's where the 4k difference is coming from.
Soooo.. I guess it was the truth, it was just misleading.

the truth of it all is.. you could have bought that 8th gen that was on a truck sitting in the lot.. it dont matter where the car is.. if its in thier system they will sell it. no matter how smart you think you are, you will never out wit a salesman, thats their meal ticket and they will swindle your moms panties off of you if they could.. I got jerked over when I bought my car and at the time I thought I was getting the better end of the deal..
What you do need to focus on is, that you bought one of the most ever reliable cars on the road, and if you treat the ride with repsect... that little Honda will still be putt-putting it down the road long after you are dead.
haha

Ive been to car dealerships where people have sold like me, and they sell well. You dont have to be pushy to make sales. And on top of losing a few cars you gain alot of repeat business from word of mouth.
So what I am saying is, next time you go into a dealership say this:
"Look I'm gunna shoot straight with you. I don't want pressure and I dont want any bull ****. You give me honesty and patience and I'll work with you. You work against me and I walk out and go elsewhere."
That, my friend, should work.
1 last thing, do research before buying! Ask around here or something.
RE: suckered
Yes I had a bit of a similar experience a few weeks ago at a local Honda dealer. I was looking at used Civics and I was drawn to the newer 04 and 05 models that were listing for around $14K. I was told that a new EX Coupe would run me $19 or $20K. So I found a sweet-looking silver '04 EX that had low miles and loaded for $14K and figured this was a great deal instead of paying $5K more for the new version. However, I'm finding out the new EX is really only around $18K, and the Si will be around $20K. No big deal, I wasn't going to buy the new model anyway as I don't think it looks very good or even original. I'm sure its a good car, and Honda will eventually make this series look cool, I just don't know about the '06 model.
I would say, be happy with your '05 Civic. In my opinion, the '04 and '05 coupes are the best looking Civics ever made, and these are the final model years of a great run of Civics using the same type of platform dating back to 1992, so you know the bugs are all worked out by now and these designs are fully developed and matured. Maybe you think because of that the car is "old", but I still think the 5th gen 92-95 model is up there as an all-time great in the automobile world, is the car that started everything as far as import tuning (sure, there were cars like the 300Z, RX-7, and even the CRX, but only a very limited amount of people were modifying them back in the day).
I've had people tell me my they thought my '04 model looks like a Lexus IS300 from certain angles, or that it looks more like an expensive Accord coupe rather than a cheap Civic. Only thing you hear about the '06 Civic is that it looks like a Saturn or Chevy Cavalier.
But there is a lot to learn here about the way these dealers work. For instance, I was looking through magazines and internet sites before I went to any lots. This particular dealership had a few Civics in particular in one of those free car magazines, and it was a brand new issue. They had a black '02Si hatchback that looked awesome, a red '02 EX coupe with 18's, and a few others like that and they were all listed for around $10-$12K. I even called about these the day I went to the dealership and they said they still had them. Well, when I went there none of those cars were around. They said that they all had sold, and every Civic they had seemed to be at least $13 or $14K. This is where I let myself get "suckered" and I ended up buying an '04 that they had. What was interesting, is that a few days later when I brought the car back for a few minor services, I saw that same red '02 model that was in the magazine (you could tell from the rims), and it was parked in the back of their lot by the service area.

^^ true story ^^
You can't trust everyone, let's face it, people are in business to make money - but I got VERY lucky when I found my Honda salesman -
Believe me I have had my dealings with my share of swindlers -
I did my research and new exactly what I wanted and how much I was willing to pay, so I knew he wasn't bullshitting me in any way shape or form - Total stand up guy
I liked him so much a bought a second car from him a few months later -
It's been 2.5 years and he's become a close personal friend - How lucky can you get!
Can't wait for that Si to come in!

believe you me, I got taken plenty of times when I was a car buying n00b.
Open your windowns, because I am about to email my salesman with a majorly bizarre request, of which he will either laugh his *** off or scream bloody murder, becasue I just don't think this poor man knows what to do with me -
I can think of a few things, but this is a family show - so I am better off saving it for like Montel or some ****

sucks that you waited so long...well to be honest I like the way the 7thgens LOOK rather than the 06. I test drove the 06 EX at the Civic Live event in SF and it was really responsive, nice engine (although the engine bay was really small,) and all that other good perfromance stuff. BUT the electronic MPH gauge sucks *** and the front of the car looks like somebody sat on it and then kicked it forward. It needs a nose! Keep the 05 and love your 7thgen. =)
