thinking about getting a black car
Hey all,
I just sold my civic and now i'm getting a Mazda 3.
I'm looking to get one in silver or titanium gray but I'm not sure if I should enlarge my choice of models by considering a black one.
I hear a lot of people saying that black cars are hell to keep looking good, scratches show and they get too hot in the summer with the black exterior/black interior combo.
My car is always parked off the street and I tend to wash it every week and detail it well.
Should I be considering a black car or is it north worth the hassle?

black cars are a hastle to work with...my eclipse is NHBP and its a bitch to keep clean...it takes me hours to detail it than in a few days the dust that settles on it gets to be a paint to hide...it shows up so easily...but hey if u like it than go for it...mazda 3's arent that good IMO...after driving my friends 5spd one i still prefer my civic over it...for a 160 car its pretty slow...06 civic is a nice choice tho

Black cars are hard to keep clean, but if you do keep em clean...man they look nice. my maxima was black and boy it collected dust fast, but its worth keeping it clean.
hey YUL - don't get a black car if you're moving to philadelphia, trust me. I live in Fairmount Park and I STILL get a film on my car the day after I wash it from all the pollution coming from center city. I also detail cars as well and I have never been able to get swirls and scratches out of black paint.
The wheel is turning...but the hamster is dead

Yeah black is a B1tch to keep clean, once you wash it 2 hours later there will be dust or pollen on it...and the little nicks on the hood will be VERY visible

I had a black truck for a while, and dear jeezus, that thing got hot in the summer! 'Course that's here in TX, your mileage may vary further north...you likely won't see 107-degree days up there.
The appearance issue is something to consider, though. My truck ALWAYS looked dirty, it seemed like...

Like i said, i live in Oklahoma and the heat has never bothered me at all and we get 105 days here in the summer too, its also very dusty here so i invested in a California Car duster and that fixes it no problem. Also, HondCiv91 said he cant get swirls out, i detail cars as well and have never had a problem getting swirls out on black unless its a corvette (they have extremely hard paint). I had a white car and a silver SUV and i have to say that i still like black better. Its up to you though, it is harder to keep clean but not impossible.
If you arent gonna put the effort into keeping it clean by washing about every week or 2, then would suggest the titanium or whatever. But I love the way black cars look, tint the windows and you have yourself one good looking car. To me its worth washing it every week. It doesnt take that long, maybe 30 mins if you arent in a rush. And its an excuse to get outside a little bit more. IMO any model car looks better in black, esp if windows are tinted.

aight i found a silver one for the right price. My civic was silver too...i like the color i guess. I'd get black if i were rich and i could park it indoors and have someone wash it twice a week.
I have a black car and i hate that it looks dirty all the time. But it looks so good when its clean. I like it when it rains too. I makes the car look darker. Except when it dries it looks gay

black and black only for me !
It sure will be hard to keep it clean all the time, but if u tend to wash/detail every week
u should be fine and you'll love how it shines =)

blacks probably the best looking color when its clean, but the price you pay for it, is a car thats prone to being dirty. As for the heat issue, just get tint all around and that solves your heat issue. i'm also a fan of the white with dark tint all around i think that looks hot.
Don't get silver. Where i live, everyone has a silver car because its one of the most neutral colors when its dirty or clean, so it basically looks the same.

I also drive a NHBP
PROS: Looks sexy, sophisticated, sporty, classy, stealthy, intimidating, and Looks so damn good!!
CONS: it's a Bitc# to keep clean ( I clean it at least 2X a week ), dents and scratches show alot easier.
My suggestion is that, if you don't mind the washing and waxing, then a black car is right for you.
