I think that the old 12k per year figure is way too low a number. (not sure who it benefits, but they continue to use it as a standard) I average anywhere from 1500-2000 miles per month.

15,000 miles a year is the average. I'm on track to put 12k miles on mine. Maybe less, my car will not be moved that much at all for 2 weeks while fiberglass work gets done to the trunk and kick panels.

uhmmm... 12,000 is average. Hence the reasoin they give you 36,000 mile / 3 year warrenty (12k a year)
Most leases are for 12k a year also, you have to pay extra if you want go 15k.

i have 04 that i got in march and have 29k on mine so thats like 20k miles a year for me. I think the average is around 12, i remember reading it somewhere, its prob a little higher now.
