Taking advantage of the warranty

I've had my 04 civic for about a year now, and the warranty is about to expire as i have 32000 miles on it. I've started a new job recently that has me driving a lot, and frequently i hear some very worrisome sounds when shifting into 1st and reverse.... what kind of maintance is offered through honda's standard warranty?

thanks

TSBs can be serviced after warranty expires from what I can recall.

if you wan to really take advantage of your warrenty.. drain all the oil out of the engine and remove tranny fluid then go lay some rubber to the pavement... after about 1 minute your enginetranny will be toast, refill oil and tranny fluid and flat bed the car to honda and bring a lawer and lie your *** off saying the car is a POS and you need a new drivetrain...

if this works 100,000,000,000 rep points to me

um im pretty sure the warranty does not covery a manual tranny. go to the dealership and tell them of the shifting prob. they should cover it.

haha, if you go in and just say i have that "shifting problem" that everyone else had, they would just be like "we can't find anything wrong with your tranny, and now give us money for the 'inspection fee'."

oh man, how i hate honda dealers...

depends. some dealerships will some won't. however, there is a LOT more to the tranny than just a clutch. lol. you made it sound like they wouldn't cover the entire transmission.

honda will cover syncros as long as they dont find a short throw shifter, bald front tires, and APC stickers....

My dad had a clutch covered under warranty. It depends if they think you abused the car or not. If it is simply a fualty part that breaks befoer the 36k 3 year warrenty, they HAVE to fix it for free (accept the battery, brake pads and tires), unless they can prove you abused or neglected (improper maintance) the car. When they take the clutch off they can see if you burned it or it simply fell apart. Synchro generally are covered under warrenty, unless agian they can prove you abused the car, but syncros are far hard to prove that you abused.

so if i put in a revo SS and i kill the synchros, they will blame it on the short shifter? hmm. interesting. how would you mess up synchros anyway? its not like you have to double clutch anyway right? thats what they are there for. how do you mess them up? when i said burned clutch i meant abuse, not faulty parts.

grinding gears and skip shifting can put more wear and tear on the synchros.

the 6 speed honda tranny is notorious for synchro/gear failure when people skip shift.

I had an accident about 5 years ago on my 99 sedan. To make a long story short, the tranny got messed, but Honda replaced it free of charge since I was still covered. It was like $3k.

i'm gonna assume that skip shifting is when you do 1-3-5 shifts.

essentially yes. but really, pointless.

it's faster to just shift through each gear.

i was just kinda curious if you'd do something different or particular if the warranty was running low, seems a waste to pay for a 3 year warranty and not use it....

incorrect.

they will warranty the burnt out clutch if they do not feel you've abused it or driven it improperly. i know plenty people who had a clutch burn out early and get it replaced under warranty.
