Average Gas Mileage
Average Gas Mileage
Hey guys, i just bought a civic less than 4 months ago. Ive been noticing that my gas mileage ranges from 28-32 MPG. I have an EX coupe automatic model.
I just want to know wat everyone else is getting for his/her MPG. I thought I'll get more MPG out of my civic.
Thanks guys!

I have a 5 spd manual 2002 Civic EX coupe, so I don't know if an Automatic will get the same kind of MPG as most manuals do.
My first tank of gas was the worst (33 mpg), while I was getting reacquainted with driving a stick (after 15 or so years of not driving stick).
What are your driving habits? Lot of short trips (under 15 miles RT), with mainly stop and go traffic? Alot of cruising? Got lead foot disease? Live in a hilly area?

01 ex 5sp coupe. 40 in the city going stop and go, and if i cruise its around 50. 40+ on the highway, cruising at 80. i don't use the a/c unless the winshield fogs up. i bought the car in february and put iridium plugs in it, i noticed a difference in gas mileage cause it got better. 65k on motor. all else is stock
I get about 36 mpg overall with mostly city in the summer and mostly highway in the fall. 04 5speed EX 22k miles. System and ebay intake and running on the 2nd tank using FP60 and the engine runs smoother and seems to be getting about an extra 2-3 mpg. SEEMS
There are so many factors that determine mpg:
-temperature
-style of driving
-transmission
-cargo
-rim size
-type of driving city vs highway, and everything in between
-windows down over 50mph
-ac on, which is actually quite minor compared to windows being down
-elevation
-tire pressure
-dirty/low oil
-up hill vs down hill driving
-mods
-dirty car-really minor
-unbalanced tires
-out of alignment
- did i miss anything???

man, my car must get really shitty milage then. was drivin for awhile with a filthy car, low air pressure, out of alignment, un balanced and windows ALWAYS open over 50. lol.
Filthy car prob does not do much, im talking muddy, and that still prob not that much.
Yeah but you would be suprised about how much low tire pressure, unbalanced tires and open windows wil decreae your mpg. Also a/c is realy not that bad, i hate when people will not turn theirs on because they are low on gas, it really ticks me off.

i get about 35mpg in the city when im driving it pretty hard, about 40ish on the highway. this is with a totally stripped out trunk and almost no extra weight in the passenger compartment, besides myself.
I went 346 miles from a full tank. Then I ran out of gas. 04 dx/vp .
Thats like 26MPG!
Tire pressure is good. Needs another oil change. 5-speed so I suffer from the dreaded lead foot.
Thinking about getting better grounds, and an intake. Maybe lighter tires/wheels will help too.

My first tank sucked, about 22MPG, since then it's been gradually getting better as it breaks in. Now it averages about 35MPG mixed city/highway (daily routine) and in the 40s if it's all highway road trip. AC seems to make little difference in mileage.

**** right now I am getting exactly 30 MPG driving 95% highway driving and 5% city driving. I wish I got 40 MPG as some people, driving to school everyday kills me.
thanks everyone for the their feedback. Seems like the MPG ranges very differently among people in this Thread. I see from 18-40 MPG. Thats realli a big difference. For those with 30 MPG and above, what type of gasoline do you guys use? Maybe that might be a factor of the MPG?

Regarding MPG? Maybe 22-25 the most on the Hwy...

The milage also makes a differance. I've had 2 7thgen civics now and notice once you hit about 15-17k miles, the mileage goes up. Both (one manual and one auto) got around 28-30, then when they hit 15-16k, they went to about 40 MPG. Long term break in is a factor for that ones I've had anyway, I also knwo it is for the M3, infact it leaked burned oil for the first 15k, then stopped.

Another good point, I notice higher octane seemed to burn quicker and thus I got worse MPG with 93 than 87.
93 actually makes the preflame phaze slower, but the actual combustion speed is exactly the same. The 93 and 87 are exactly the same quality wise, same cleaners and everything it is the law. The only reason to use higher octane is to reduce pinging/knocking for higher compression, performance type engines. Always use the recomended octane rating in your manual unless you are boosted or spraying nitrous. The only effect that using higher octane rated gas then recomended would be a nasty rotten egg smell that comes from you exhaust because you are damaging your hurting your cat.
