^^^ vtec in the d17a2 kicks in from 2500 to 3k rpms. if at full throttle then its 2500 and always when you hit 3k. 4500 is for other vtec motors. the vtec we have just opens up the extra intake valves so the engine can breather better to get better gas mileage.

Yeah I know the tech behind fuel, but this is still an observation myself and many other on this forum have noticed. And in some cases it is not law to have the same detergents, that only applies if all the fuels are coming from the same nozzle, if you have different nozzels they can different amounts of cleaners/detergents.

4500 RPM VTEC engagement is generally found in higher revving DOHC motors like the S2000 motor or the RSX-s motor (I'm not sure when the RSX-s VTEC kicks in though).
damn...everyone on here seem to have good mileage...i wish i could get 350 on my ful tank and i'll be happy!...i'm gettin lik 22-25 for city...and highway i can get lik 300 for a full tank. guess i cant get such a high mileage bcuz where i live have hills?

you guys that say "i get xx miles to the tank," well whenever you fill up its not like we all fill up the same amount, so theres no way to actually calculate your mpg.

Maybe they are talking about filling up until pump shut off occurs and then measuring the miles until gas light comes on, that is what i was assuming.
One way to calculate mpg-
1. fill tank up until auto shut off
2. reset one of the trip counters
3. drive a couple hundred miles
4. go back to same pump and fill up until shut off-write down how many gallons you pumped
5. Now you have how many gallons of gas you used and the number of miles driven so you have your miles per gallon, then multiply that by 13.7 and you have miles per tank of gas
I see what your saying it is hard to figure out what a tank of gas means in their mind, but it gives a ball park.

i do this, i reset the first trip A and then B. i fill up ALL the way. then i drive around until my little " i need gas light" comes on. then i go fill up all the way and record the mileage. then i record the amount i filled up after the little light came on. subtract 13.2 from what you filled up on after the light came on. lets say 10 gallons. if i had a full tank then drove it around till the empty light then filled up with 10 gallons i would be gettig 40mpg if my trip said 400. easy stuff. then i leave the second trip to record monthly and divide that by the number of gallons i get. fun stuff
i drive a 04 auto, get shitty/inconsistent mpg. 22-28ish, 32 if lucky =(. 2 12inch. and a axle back exhaust. check air filter/oil/tire pressure weekly. drive mixed freeway and highway. uhm i use valvoline oil, if that makes any differences.
wow, im getting below average mpg then?
automatic civic ex coupe
catless/exhaust/intake/hyper ground system w/grounding kit/stereo system
300-320 per tank. 80% city/20% highway/spirited driving, but not always.
and the gasoline tank is capable of 13.2 gallons if im correct?
310/13.2= 23mpg average
sticker tag claims 29mpg city/32mpg highway too?

you know i think i saw a post some where talking about "fuel treatment"?? i was wondering about then, cuz my cars an 04 ex manual and i get about 30 mpg and the person who posted said it was pretty cheap for a gallon of the stuff?? and you put it in every fill up and it'll let you get better mileage?? or something.. and another question is, so is it not good putting higher octane in our cars? than what honda tells us to? i put in plus from chevron all the time, would i get better mileage if i put the lowest octane fuel in?? sorry i was sorta confused
actually no i dont get 30, i've gotten 30 mpg when i drive like 65 to 70 on high way and like 40 local, i think normally i get like 27 ish or something and i thought that was kinda crappy being that honda says 32 local 37 highway mileage for the manuals

I have yet to find anything that yeilds a decent imporvment.
As for the octane, I can say from a technical point of view, higher octane will not help your engine. My personal observation, and many other on this forum have noticed that we get worse MPG with higher octane. My advice is just stick with the 87 octane.
How many miles do you have and what kind of driving habits do you have.
