Noob with lots of questions...here is the first...
I am a college student (aka broke) and i have just purchased a civic vp (dx with ac and cd player) it is the really nice blue color, with the crappy beige interior...
1st question...i really really REALLY want to make my car sound like a luxury car, like..completely silent, or as close as i can to having a road noise-free ride... so what should i do? i have read a lot of posts as to the "jute" which i know is the fibrous material at home depot, but as i said i am a noob, and would really love to hear some of ya'll's (i'm from texas) opinions. I have been reading these forums and topics for about a week now, but i would really like it if someone could help me out personally.
One more question, can anyone think of a color scheme or something i could do with the interior of my car without me spending loads of money? It may be impossible to change interior without spending lots of money, but i have to ask, ya know? I really want to do the blue led lights and what not for my guage (which i just purhcased an 03 gauge that has the tach, and yes, it is manual...not a ricer
) oh yea, and expect to hear a lot from me, cuz i really want to make my car nice (since i plan to have this for a loooong time) and all of ya'll provide a wealth of information on all these subjects that i had no idea was out there thanks in advance!

and i've already done my first mod! i shaved my civic logo on the back of my car! woot! lol

our cars have road noise, vibrations, panel rattle. they just do. i recomend you try to find a used lexus or high end vehicle if thats what you want. or you can throw a ton of time and money in to tryin to get this car how you want it just to have a new source pop up. i say buy a large 4 ch amp and some new 61/2 speakers that handle atleast 35w rms and just make sure its loud enough so that you cant hear the car.
If u wanna make it quiet, u will be spending alot of money ie dynamat/fatmat/ whatever. but you will need sound deading material. You would have to rip up the carpet and put it all on the floor of ur car. U would also need a hood dynamat thing. (goes on the underside of the hood). basically you would b spending alot of time and $ to get that car quiet
Read through/Search the ICE forums for details....
OK...here's a rundown (my $0.02):
sound deadening:
Watch ebay for sales on Raammat, eDead, and Fatmat (in that order of quality) You will need about 200square feet to do a good job, and be prepared to not drive your car for a couple days, as taking the seats out, carpet out, panels out, clean, drop in the sheeting, and put everything back in, then fix whatever you broke, can take a long time.
Also, the crap that morons keep calling jute is NOT what you want. You want fibrous carpet padding. Jute is like hemp, and again, NOT what you want. If you refer to it as jute again, I will go to your house, and drive a NCAA-qualified javelin through your eye. OK? I assume we understand ourselves, so let's wrap this up...
The hood liners? I don't have one, because I've heard they don't help THAT much. My car is VERY quiet. I have about 200lbs of eDead, Raamat, and padding, and sheet metal in strategic places. It's quite a pleasant ride; since I drive 70 miles of freeway on my commute, it was important to me.
I hope this helps. Again..read the DIY and a few other posts in the ICE forum.

dynamat Xtreme is does the job extremly well at a very light weight (compared to other deadeners). Only downside beside weight is the heavy price. enough for whole car though:
roughly $130
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DYNAM...spagenameZWDVW
should be enough for the whole passanger compartment. might need a little more, like 1 or 2 $30 wedge packs to finish the trunk though!
about the engine... its really loud stock so never add an intake or exhaust for quiet-ness but hoodliners are worth the $$$ imo since you will always want to hear the engine a little in case something started to go wrong you could tell.

i dunno if you were aware, but the 03 gauge cluster swap is going to take a lot of time, you have to redo the harness wiring. might as well buy an 01-02 lx/ex cluster, straight plug and play.
silver o4, here is the link on ebay... it says..01-03 could you tell by the look of it what year it is? cuz it really seems like a daunting task to rewire the gauges...anyways...that kinda sucks...bad news x2 (if the gauge isn't plug and play) cuz it seems like i can't get my car quiet (which i really wanted to do) and i would never buy a different car, i lub my little civic! well...now i gotta figure out what i'm gonna do on my car if i can't make it quiet...or rewire the guage...any suggestions? as i said..all i've done so far is take the civic emblem off, maybe something that is relatively easy, and will boost my confidence with messing around with my car?

hey noob welcome to the club.
everyone is going thru the same dilemma, broke and modify. just know your limits, but then again modding is addicting; you just keep on buying ****. my favorite phrase when we go shopping/out is "im broke", but my brother always respond to me saying "yeh when you buy stuff for your car you're not broke, but you're broke for everything else!"
fvcker is so true!
you can also do minor cosmetic stuff like headlights, grill, fogs, tint, tails, rims, audio deck, etc. if i were you, do something that everyone could see, i.e. exterior modifications. think about it, you spent like hundreds of dollars on your "sound deadening" mod. but the car itself from the outside still looks dead stock, everyone else would think that it's the same old factory vic that has nothing done to it.

^^ i agree ^^ do some exterior stuff first. im poor too. make like 1100 a month and got bills that total out to 1300 a month. but what i can get i throw into exterior mods. i got blacked out head lights, new grill, custom blacked out tail lights, tints and then i got a crazy *** sound system. the system was a gift so i only had to pay for install. but it makes my car stand out. i think i got some pics of it on here. click on my name then see my ride.
I wil fix vBPlaza today

(sorry i dont have a pic of my cleared)
without the amber(orange)
lol im a noob also, but i just recently cleared my headlights, so..
clearing them doesnt do anything really, its just that alot of people hate that orange on their car, so they clear them to give their civic headlights a better look to it all chrome or even black if you paint the housing
thanks for the info and that is awesome news about the 01-02 cluster so it should just be plug and play for me right? even though my old one didn't have a tach? and also thanks for the info bout the cleared headlights, i'm sure it can't be too hard to do, i was thinking about painting the amber part black, but i dunno with my color (the blue color) if that would look good, also, i really don't care what other people see when they look at my car (well, i do) but i'd rather do interior mods for me then later on do the outside to make it look nice, i want to be super comfortable and feel like...james bond, lol when i drive, but yea, that is why i would rather do interior mods first. also, any ideas about changing the interior colors of my beige interior? oh yea, to the people that have used fatmat, edea, dynamat, etc do you think the price is worth it? (specifically for road noise, not sound system)? thanks again guys, this community is the shiznit

adding all that sounddamping **** is gunna add some massive weight to your car. so dont expect your car to go fast at all. to change the beige, find a wrecked 03+ vic with black interior and strip it. but that could be very costly. or just take the dash and seats and paint everything else. safe some money. but the cheapest thing is to learn to like it lol. i think the only way with the 04+ lights is to paint the amber peice. cause if you take it out it leaves a hole (dont know since i own a 02 but i think i read that somewher) but what is there to mod in the interior? i think our interior is hot. only thing i wanna do is shift ****. SI wheel and Si or RSX seats. leanin more toward Si if i can get the rear bench in there. but yours would be nice with some tan RSX leather seats. lol
yea, i wonder how much that would cost to switch it out, or the rsx seats, do'nt really know where to find the rsx seats..hmm..i wish there was someone i knew, or around here, that could help me out, but i am learning all this on my own, just like i had to do when i was building my first computer, even though this seems much more complicated
anyways, thx for the help! i don't really have much that i want to do to the interior (YET, lol) but i do want to put some...lcd or neon lights under the dash, to make the floor glow (don't know the proper name, if anyone does, plz let me know) and i really want to make the air vents and face plate where cd tray is silver, or someother color, and try to make the lights blue instead of the orange/amber color that it has. but i'm sure it is VERY complicated to do, as i have read over and over again all the different threads and diy's on those topics, but yea, that is really what i want to do to my car..that i can think of...at 1:37 a.m. lol thx everyone!
