Honda V8 in the making
The September edition of Motor Trend magazine is reporting that according to rumors, Honda is developing an all aluminum block V8 engine. They are guessing that displacement is between 4.2 and 4.4 liters and of 90 degree configuration which means it's not related to the 3.5L or 3.8L V6 engines from Honda/Acura.
According to the article, the engine is tested in Ridgeline trucks but slated for use first in the next generation Acura RL which will be out in 2010 as a 2011 model. Then it will add it to the next Ridgeline truck in 2011 as 2012 model.
Finally, Honda is working on a new V6 turbodiesel engine for the USA market sometime after the 2007 mandates of low sulfur gas take place. The engine will be used in the Ridgeline and Pilot SUV.

The RL might be really lacking in sales by 2010 without a v8.
I don't know how crediable this rumor is, as i thought Acura/Honda was developing a new flagship ful size sedan above the RL in their effort to become a tier1 luxury car brand. Not to mention that this means 3 new engines are in development, a v10, this v8, and the turbodiesel v6.

Americans want huge displacement engines to compensate for their diminutive organ statue. (DOS) Honda HAS to produce a V8 or better to stay viable in the big car and truck market. At least Honda is smart enough to make a V8 fuel efficient. I know the Accords V6 is strong, just imagine what they COULD do with an 8.

I don't know...it either seems Honda is doing a lot of engine development OR there are just too many rumors concerning honda motors.
I4 turbo based off the k24
v10
v8
TD v6
R18
the v10 has been thought to have been in R&D for a few years now.
R18 is now completed
K24 turbo has been talked about lots of times
V8 seems like the most logical motor to develop
TD v6 will either succeed or fail depending on how americans view diesel fuel in the near future.

In order to stay alive here, they have to do it. It sucks because they came to the US making small, affordable, fuel effecient cars. however, Americans don't want them anymore....

^^^ I think that may change if gas prices continue to go up. I know a few people that have traded their larger car/trucks in for smaller cars. I know I tired of spending $200 a month for gas, at least I can write it off on my taxes
Sometimes, I can see right through myself ...

Currently in Formula 1, they use a 3L V10. Next season they're going to be using a 2.4L V8 capable of 20,000RPM.
So, by using these engines that they've already developed, it wouldn't be too hard to tweak and work on them just a little bit for the consumer market.

Honda needs a few new engines alright. I doubt the V10 will come anytime soon, but I know they need that V8 now!
I hope Honda manages to make a fuel efficient engine that actually has power, and isn't a weak engine.
