supercharger for Si
supercharger for Si
Now I know that this is for 7th gen Civics, but I've heard many bad stories about ClubSi so I figure I will post it here. I am interested in buying a 2000 Civic Si with very low miles, a certified one. They go for about $16000-17000 which is fine for me. However I do want to install a Vortech supercharger on it. The kit itself retails for $4000. I was wondering how much a good shop would charge for installation and all the necessary modifications.
Dude thats expensive as $hit. I bought my Si for 15k and can get my hands on a Jackson Racing Supercharger for around 2k. Any local performance shop should be able to do the install...my local store's is $34 an hour so it will vary.

First of all, let me tell you that its with great pleasure that people are becoming scared of CSi! That made my day. BTW, there is no better place for actual automotive knowledge in the honda world online, but thats not the point.
The Vortech SC is a waste of money. We have had many many members complain about it after their install. It was true that everyone was hyped about it BEFORE it actually came out, but due to the number of blown engines and shotty tech/customer serivce no oine wants to deal with them anymore. Not to mention that for 4K you can buy your self a Greddy turbo kit, with intercooler, and upgraded 20G turbo and still have money left over a VAFC, install of everything and tuning on a dyno and make more WHp then you would ever see out of the vortech kit (reliably anyway). However if you are serious about getting some sort of forced induction I do reccomend posting in clubsi.com. the only forums that get "bad" are the SI Vs all and out there. there IS a reason why we have over 10K members world wide you know.

Yeah that is your opinion. I already have a VAFC in my Si and when I can afford it Im getting the JRSC or the Turbonetics T3/T4. Depends on whether I want to put up with the crap involved with a Turbo (probably not

the JRSC has NO potential. Even with I/H/E VAFC and Camgears people are BARELY pushing 200WHP. and there are too many horor stories of poped B16s from the 8PSi upgrade, which would only put you at around 220 anyway, which is still less then what you would see out of an intercooled Greddy kit with the stock 18G turbo, and that costs the same if not less then a JRSC kit.
I haven't heard any bad stories over several boards about the JRSC except the ones you are telling. Some people don't want to blow through the stratasphere in a 4-banger. As for a turbo, the one people have told me to get on CSI and Superhonda was the Turbonetics, not Greddy.

no, not for the stock pully. there arnt any problems other then lack of power. I was talking about with the upgraded 8PSi pully. ant turbotechnics doesnt make a "kit" persay. perople are telling you to get a turbo from them (probably a t3 or t3/t4 hybrid) since the stock Greddy kit comes with an 18G which isnt exactly the best flowing turbo. HOWEVER you also note that i said with the 4k he has to spend he can upgrade to the 20G and fix that.

<< How much HP we talking about with the Greddy or 1/4 mile times? (either way) I'm assuming mpg will go down but what should I expect: 20mpg in the city? >>
with the 20G upgrade i mentioned:

your looking at low low 14s on street tires, and high 13s on slicks with this set up, but remember this is still running mild boost.

heres some dynos of a vortech Sis
this SI has I/H/E and is running stock boost on the vortech kit (6.5PSi)

This one is a Vortech with 10PSI pully upgrade Comptech header and N1 cat-back with test pipe.

dont believe the makers claims. they r ALWAYS blown out of proportion, plus the Vortech has been a notorious engine popper.
and for compairson, heres a JRSC Si with VAFC, I/H/E and dyno tuning.

Thanks for the dynos Joe. I was thinking a long time ago about getting a 2002 Si, but the looks just never grew on me. I like the 6th gen much better. Plus I can save a little money on it.

feh, the ITR uses welded stampings to make it like 200% stiffer then the GSR and it weighs LESS.
