the new R18 engine
so do you suppose honda has taken into effect the tuner market and how popular the civic is when it comes to this? The D17 responds horribly to parts, think the new R18 might respond any better?
No it probably won't. Honda is not going backwards in their technologies. Now, car companies release cars that are tuned for maximum street potential from the factory. Gone are the days of Intake, header, and exhaust getting you 20 whp.

^agreed
advances in engineering has gotten manufacturers to the point of maxing out their machines in terms of performance/reliability/efficiency/etc. right off of the drawing board.

Yeah go ahead and put the fart cannon on. All you'll get is an annoying sounding stock performing car.

i/h/e is nothing these days...the only way to get anything out of newer n/a cars is gonna be aftermarket forced induction or swaps...in the mean time factory turbo cars have much more potential...
and mite i add what the **** is a r18...why not go back and use the b series then

most cars are never fully tuned from the factory ... usually because emissions limits their full potential ... so most cars will gain power form modding ... the d17 just happens to be one of the few engines that really don't make **** with their mods.
on another note ... I believe that the R18 will respond very well to mods ... if any of you have seen the vid, you'll notice that the R18 exhaust manifold looks very similar to the DX/LX one ... except that it will have two cats ... that's some pretty good power to be gained there

I dont know......I HATE my civic. Yea it looks cool, but cmon guys, its wayyy too slow. I think that our civics should've had around 150hp from the factory to even make it a decent car. If the R18 tunes up well, I will DEFINATELY be trading for one, and if it doesnt, hello Spec-v.
Nothing works better than a Chris except a Honda.

In terms of power, the new engine was supposedly better then the old one. It comes with a little more torque, and I'm not sure if it is lighter, or the hybrid's is lighter. I don't know if that means they maxxed out the easy mods to do to get taht power.
