93 civic a/c ??
93 civic a/c ??
Okay here's my problem. I picked up a 93 Civic DX a couple of weeks ago that the previous owner had pulled all the A/C hardlines and compressor off of. He had it all in the trunk and I decided to put it back on and convert to R134a. He thought the compressor was bad(whole reason he pulled it off) but when I spun it by hand it pulled a suction and pumped air. I put it on the car and started her up(put oil in it). The compressor was pretty noisy but would compress with the hardlines removed. I hooked the lines up and started her up. When I turned the A/C on it smoked the belt on the A/C and seized the clutch/compressor. I broke the compressor loose afterwards and the clutch(idle) pulley was rough to turn but the crank for the compressor spins fine. I don't know if that means there's something wrong with the compressor, clutch, or if there is something wrong with the expansion valve/orifice(not sure which the car has). I put the compressor back on the car and ran it again without power and it compressed even though I didn't hook up the power to it. I didn't have power hooked up to the compressor so it shouldn't have spun at all. If anyone has an idea let me know.
