returnless fuel system
ok guys i searched for the following: returnless and returnless fuel system and got nothing. so i was just wondering what the returnless fuel system is, how it works and why its such a problem for getting some kind of forced induction...thanks
Basically it is what it says. Fuel only flows in one direction with our cars...to the engine. In the older civics, it would flow both ways, so that if their was too much fuel it would just go back to the tank.
well said Perfect
why is it a problem?
with the old system, fine tuning the flow of fuel to the engine is much easier, because any excess fuel will flow back to the tank, this is particularly important with forced induction where problem of burning fuel too lean or too rich arises
with the new system, flow of fuel has to be matched correctly with the correct air/fuel ratio, and programming your ECU to do that is quite tricky

Yes, a VTEC controller would cure this problem
...BUT
1. VTEC controller does not work with our cars
2. The stock fuel system won't go to much farther than it already is.
Ya just can't take a squirrel and make it work like a horse!

They did, but later found out it didn't work.
The reason Honda went with a returnless fuel system....
Why else...Emissions!
With fuel not circulating back to the tank, the in tank temperatures stay low, so not as much vaporization occurs, which results in higher emissions. Damn ULEV crap!

It sucks!
You cant have the fuel pressure rise, as the boost or N2O psi increases, so you are limited to the amount of fuel supplyed by the pump, but the RSX system flows at higher volume and psi than the 7th gen, so hopefully they will come up with something similar for our cars.
