the elise is a nice car. If you can afford a 40k car then cost of the engine isn't much of an issue. Its a great track car, but not something you would use as a daily driver. There far better daily driver cars that give you more bang for your buck in the 40k range.
The bit about old celica engine is out of SPORTCOMPACTCAR mag, just thought it was clever!!! It was for someone who saved up for the elise, and was budgeted, unlike most people who own one.
If you have an elise you would probably not drive it every day, you may wanna take the H1 or benz out. I should have used weekend car or 3-4 day week driver, basically when its nice out. That engine would be great tuned at 400whp, to drive a couple days a week. Of course this will never happen cause they will not swap the engine like that company did, it would take a real enthusist to say the least. It would still be sweet!!!
You are telling me if someone spent 40k on a car for just the track and then swaped the engine, then they would not want to up the hp to around 600hp, why the hell not!!! I was just thinking, god all of you are so lame, "nah man its a track car why would you wanna go so fast"!!!
LOL its actually amuses me!!
I was thinking about how sweet it would be to have a car that light with 600+ hp, which can be accomplished with that swap, i just do not see how you can deny this. How is this a waste of money they already built it with the k20a2, why not really give it some power!!! I think it is a waste of time and money to put an engine like that in a a car like that, and not turbo it!!! If they did that, it would be some accomplishment!!!

real race car drivers know that hp isnt everything. The car must be balanced out with the hp in order to perform at its peak on a race track.
you can have a 600hp elise but its pointless because you would never put the traction down. All that hp would make the handling suffer and the engine weight of a k20 will upset the delicate balance of an elise. Im not just pulling **** out my *** here , that car was desighned based of the stock specs to perform.
Elise is a go-cart on wheels, it would be very difficult to sell one once you buy it. Its for an extremely nitch market

Still 600hp in a go cart, come on i am not saying your pullin **** out of your ***!!!
Just level with me brother, it would be sickkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you imagine being in that car in third gear and bam, tires schreech while you feel like your going back in time.
When this baby hits 88 mph your gonna see some serious ****!!!
P.S.-there is a serious market in the last year or two in the U.S. and even canada for wheeless go carts, so i would imagine ones with wheels would be in more demand!!!!

horrible for compition racing though like I said
To the guy talking about the 1ZZ.......why in the hell would you put that in there when it already has a 2ZZ that makes ~70HP more stock?
As far as swapping in a k20, thats cool, and definately original. I just dont like the idea of swapping in a bigger engine. I mean the elise is a pure drivers car with great weight distribution, why risk screwing that up? I'd rather keep the 2ZZ and boost it just a bit. A company called forcefed already has a turbokit out for the 2ZZ Elise

My friend just bought an lotus elise about 3 weeks ago. What an amazing car, this celica engine can do a lot of things. Im really impress with the abilities it can do. BEST handling car out there! One thing I dont like about the car, way to small for anyone that is taller than 5'4". Hard to get in and out.. I got a bruise for getting out already, Im 5'8" Its a pain in the ***. His future plans is a k20a2 when he puts more miles on it.
