how would i get the black gunk off the chrome.. without messing up the chrome in teh progress

well... my friend tried bug and tar remover... yea and now lets just say my chromes faded in that area...

the original sticky black stuff that seals the housing right? i used rubbing alcohol, and it came off but i am not guarentee anything, it did work for me though

I used brake cleaner to get it off mine. Spray it on a rag but don't use too much. It has been about a month and my headlights look immaculate (no fading).

Okay, speaking from experience here do NOT EVER use goof off on any plastic. I murdered one of my headlights trying to get that infernal black goo off of my chrome piece and my clear plastic cover.
