An occasional problem on this vehicle is failure of the second gear clutch in the Automatic Transmission. This will cause the Automatic Transmission to slip or the check engine light to illuminate. Also when the Automatic Transmission is rebuilt or replaced, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software will need to be updated. The costo replace the Automatic Transmission is estimated at $1800.00 for a remanufactured Automatic Transmission and $318.50 for labor. The cost to update the PCM is estimated at $65.00 for labor. All prices are estimates based on $65 per flat rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax.

My wife has an 03 LX and haven't seen this problem yet, but glad to know about it. I knew I forced her to buy that 100,000 mile warranty for a reason. Damn FWD transmissions.
I replaced an 01 lx (auto) tranny at 20,000 km. There junk, honda gladly replaced it as many of the 01 lx autos blew. I had to get towed across the city cost me $120.
Ive put about 100,000 on the tranny they replaced and have had no issues. The first year of the vics the tranny was a real issue but as far as im concerned the error has been corrected.
If you ever drive a more expensive car, you'll feel how much stronger the trannys are.
