**PIC**I invented something cool tonite!!! AEM cold air Intake for automatics.
I wasnt happy with my AEM SRI so ive been fooling around with some ideas. My idea was to make the existing SRI a cold air system since they dont make one for the Automatic.
What i did was encapsule the airfilter completely in a standard 3 lb coffee can!! I cut out a circle on one end (plastic lid) and placed the filter in and the rubber gromet sticks out the hole from the inside making a perfect seal. I then cut out a 3 inch hole on the other end (Metal) and inserted a flexible intake tube from that end to a cold air source and walah! converted SRI to CAI.
The reason I did this is because the original airfilter box with an intake tube was still restrictive. A KN drop in filter just wasnt the same as a conical filter. By retaining the SRI in its entirety, adding the enclosure ensures that it wont pull in hot air. I did test drive it and its wonderful.
Its a prototype. Im going to home depot to see if i can find something that really fits the bill. What i have is good but Id like to find something in ABS plastic instead of the coffee can. But th initial testing tells me its worth it to look.

It doesnt mount. The original airfilter on the sri just hangs in space. The filter mounts within the can and basically holds it. Then the tube from the other end goes behind the battery or under the rad. It doesnt add hardly any weight at all.
Transformation complete. Home Depot had some durable plastic flower planters, tapered to the shape of the filter. The bottem end is sealed and there was round plastic tray to put underneath it. Interestingly enough if you flip it over its a perfect fitting top !! So i used a hole saw and cut a hole on each end. The filter places inside perfectly and the rubber grommet sticks out the back and attaches to the SRI pipe. I cut the other hole on the other end and fit a rubber grommet in it snuggly and ran the plastic intake tubing to the cold air source. i also painted the enclosure flat black. Damned thing looks like it's allways been there.

Butt dyno update: Its really got some low end grunt now. Ive never been able to spin the tires in my auto except a chirp on a wet road. Now, On dry pavement I can spin!!! The car pulls much better in the whole power band. Top end is crazy like the original sri, but the low end is much better than the stock box. I think Im going to build some and sell them. People who didnt get the CAI can convert theirs to a nice cold air system few a fraction of the cost. Even if you bought an SRI and my add on it would be a lot cheaper than the CAI. Theres no risk of water entering the system like the cai either.

YOU ARE A GOD! I love the pict, is the whole thing white with little black lines?
