Correct.....speed limiters are very fast - you probably didn't even hot the true redline. I imagine it kicked it around 7000, and inertia took it 7100-7300. Dont keep doing it, but most likely Ok now.

on a 2k1 the tach dosnt even go past 8000rpms. If your talking about an Si, the rev limiter kicks in at 8100, unless you got a modded ecu...

Disnavis has a good question there, will the rev limiter kick in on a downshift, say from 5th to 2nd at 120Km/h?? I am pretty sure it will and just lock the tires up, but I am not sure.

NO the rev won't kick in.......... but you will hear a unpleasent ROOOOOOOOOHHHHHH sound.......
plus ur car will lung forward because the car is being slowed down.........
the engine can't handle the gear your in at the speed ur at.........
It's a dumb idea to downshift pass the gear that it should be in......
EXSPECIALLY frum 5th to 2nd.........

I wasn't saying I do that, just using it as an example. I love my Civic way too much to ever punish it like that!!!

if you down shift from 5 to 2 by mistake and over rev the car your motor will blow thats for sure ask any one so try not to do that or you will find out the hard way.

Being with friends that have done it before, you can feel the car lurch forward and just have to make sure you jam that clutch back in ASAP or your engine is TOAST!!!

i think if i was going that fast i would have to intentionally jam it into second gear, my shifter wont do that very easily

Re: highest rpm reading ???

alright a few weeks ago i had a customer bring me in a 2001 civic ex with a blown engine.

after inspecting the damage to all 4 pistons with 2 holes in each 1, due to the exhaust valves i figured a broken timing belt.

WRONG the belt was fine. the tensioner is fine, cam was not seized, and the bottom pulley was fine.

i questioned the customer on this and he said he was racing and at 8k went from 3rd to 4th and missed....he hit second by mistake.

he said his tack pegged all out.

so his rev limiter kicked in but the shear weight of the car pushed this vehicle well beyond 9000 rpm.

the best part now is it keeps killing ecm's after the new engine has been replaced.

a alternator spins about 2.5 times faster than the engine. and 20,000rpm is not good to voltage regulators.

so a 3-2 miss shift= $2000 engine with install+$500 ecm install and diag+$200 alt and diag.

p.s. ouch

Re: highest rpm reading ???

this thread is about 6 years old mang! lol. but in any case. people dont understand that just because there is a rev limiter on their ECM it doesnt mean you cant go past it. you can mechanically make your engine rev as high as you want. somehow people manage to go from redline 4th gear into 3rd or redline 3rd gear into 2nd. no rev limiter of any kind is going to guard from you from a mistake like that.
