Short Ram Vs. Cold Air
Short Ram Vs. Cold Air
I know I sound pretty dumb but what is the difference between these two intakes? I know that the Short Ram sits higher than the Cold Air, but what is the real big differnce? Which one puts out more horses? Which would you recommend?

first off, u are gonna get flamed for not searching....secondly, there is not really a difference in performance, especially if that is the only mod. The disadvantage to cold air is that is it more expensive and you have to be careful in the rain. I personally have cold air, so its really ur choice

The engine does not need extra anyways. It is like increase the size of your nose without increase the size of the lungs.

thats exactly right....as i was saying, its not much of a gain without anything else, cause now u are just sucking more air in without pushing it out. Most people here buy it for the noise anyways i think...
short ram:
pros
-cheaper than CAI
-easier to install
-high end is supposely increased?
-no worries about hydrolocking (sucking in water thru filter)
cons
-heat soaking (engine bay gets very hot as the filter is right by it)
-always less performance than a CAI (assuming same company/filter/brand/etc)
cold air intake:
pros
-always a step ahead of the SRI
-no heat soaking as filter is located away from heated resources
-some can be adjusted so it can be used as a short ram
cons
-more cost effective than sri
-hydrolocking
-filter may seem to get more dirty than an sri since its located below vehicle
when you throw down a payment for a intake, your basically paying for guarantee fitment and quality material. many will say just get an eBay intake if u just want noise, but i also heard stories of people (in general) how the ebay intakes didnt come with all neccesary parts ( missing clamp, not enough screws, no instructions, etc). but thats eBay...
so keep in mind you get what you pay for. you can get a $30 intake and hopefully be a lucky bird and wont end up paying more for misc. pieces or a $100 quality intake thats guaranteed OEM fitment and quality parts. on top of that, i know AEM will replace or send you any parts for free if your order is missing.
