Bike racks

Looking to get a bike rack for my 04 civic coupe, but I'm not very familiar with them. Anybody have info or pics on bike racks they use? I'm thinking that a rear trunk mounted one is going to by the best solution, but I'm still concerned about how its supported and if the pads resting on the trunk and bumper will scratch/scuff/damage the paint. What are your experiences?

I have the yakima roof rack. I have a dual suspensionn bike and the trunk rack will not hold my bike properly. I believe that yakima is one of the best rack systems. Search aroung though, I spent 550. for mine (for two bikes). Check out http://www.cheaphondaparts.com/shop/...ategory_ID+326 , they got everything you need and you can avoid paying tax if you do not live in CA.

Yeah, I'm thinking a roof rack would be a lot easier to find...

I don't think finding a rack that mounts on the trunk is going to be problem at all. There are a few different models that will work with the vic. I'm just wondering what peoples experiences are with various racks. The nice thing about the trunk racks is they can be easily taken off when they aren't in use.

roof racks are very easy to take off to. Easier than a trunk rack, unlock flip up clamps than take off.

where do they clamp too? I guess I'm really not familiar with how the roofracks mount. I always thought you had fixed pieces that stayed on the car. I've been looking at the Yakima Mighty Joe 2, its about $120 and mounts on the trunk. Do you have pics of your roof rack? It seems that a rear rack would be easier to load and you wouldn't have to worry about height.

They wrap around from the roof top to the door frame. They will not mess up your ride either. I just cannot put my cannondale on a trunk rack. I am not going to have the rack wear on my paint and damage the frame, plus if someone rear-ends you your bike is toast.

One thing about roof racks is you always have to check clearance when going through a McDo or something.

I usually just take the tire off mine and shoehorn it into the trunk after I've flipped the back seats down, but I imagine if you're looking for a rack you probably want that space for something else eh?

I got a trunk mounted bike rack. I think I bought it at wal mart or target. I've used it 3-4 times last summer. No scratchs or nothing. I think the hooks were padded. When I get out of bed I'll take pics and post.
