swap or beater?

i'm thinking of either swapping a K20a2 into the civic or else buying a '85-'86 corolla gts AE86 hatch as my project car. i could pick up the 86 for ~$2k and do all the work myself... or should i dump a k20 in the vic?

Picking up an 86 is the cheap part. Parts are hard to find and expensive. Most of it probably has to come out of japan, and they've been popular for a long time over there, they've got AE86 racing series' because of the car's cheapness, but they're getting old and parts are starting to become hard to find.
A K20 swap would probably be a cheaper project in the long run.
