in regards to ur type R question is i have no idea, 205hp and 220 ft-lb of torque sounds pretty nice but once again, i'm biased in favor of hondas so
they cheated, using a turbo from the factory, that makes that car not so interesting. at least with our cars we can add a turbo and probably go that fast with a little engine work. The new SiR hatch or RSX would kickass with a turbo kit.
They Cheated?! What?! I guess Subaru cheated by putting a turbo in the WRX. 205hp with the warranty intact and when you put on an intake and make 15 more hp they still won't void it. Add a boost controller and up it another 20hp and not worry about your motor going.

You have to give props where they are due. I'm as much of an American car fan as Osama Bin Laden, but that is a kick *** little car. It would take anyone on this forum in a heartbeat (provided you are driving your Civic) The thing is, they found a way to give so much for so little. Yeah, quality will suffer, but if you just want to beat it into the ground and sell it in 3 years it's not a bad car. The resale will only be like 1/3 of original price, but you got your moneys worth, right? Well, unless you count all the non-warranty repairs to the vehicle...

I don't know how to put this without sounding like a jerk (i am being nice here) but you guys have no idea how reliable the new Neon's are. If you read many consumer reviews they have very good ratings, better than most in their class and not far from the Civics. The PT cruiser is on the same boat, great ratings and it is built on the Neon platform. Resale does suffer a little but that is changing(slowly).
WRX
227 hp - 3200lbs - AWD
SRT-4
205 hp - 2800 (est) - FWD
The Neon will have equal length driveshafts to cut down torque steer and help with launches, also the FWD will put more power to the ground as AWD eats up HP in drag. I am not saying that SRT-4 will walk on WRX's but for about $4000 less it would be a drivers race. Also I test drove a loaded Subura TS wagon and I got to tell ya, the interior is the same overall to the Neon. My buddy just sold his WRX cause he wanted a richer nicer interior.
Sorry for the rice math but hey..........

I'm somewhat biased on the matter. It doesn't matter how good a car they build. I just hate dodge. more than ford even. but yea, it isn't a bad car. I just get the feeling that it'll turnout something like the Sentra SE-R, Crap quality, and slower than it should be. But we've got a good year and a half wait before we find out. Remember the Lancer Evo VII will also be in North America by then.
I will NEVER buy a dodge Neon..... my best friend of 13 years was broadsided and killed in one. it was their 99 sport model..... not what I'd call the safest car on the market..... more like a death trap on wheels.
ill give u one thing about it
it does look better than the neons out there right now
hahaha
but seriously all biases set aside it looks alright
ive drive it
but i rather have an import 19.995??? dang that looks like an rsx type S right there!!!!!
it has to be turbo charged to get to 205??? thats not good enough
need more HP to get me to buy it!!!

What happens when you take a piece of **** engine from a crappy manufacturer and put a turbo on it...you get an even crappier engine. I'll agree with a previous poster that this car is okay if you plan on leasing, hopefully you'll get the 3 years w/o a problem(tho I doubt it). Of course you have to figure that it will be worth pratically nothing when you trade it in since everyone knows that it has been driven hard(that's what it's for).
You do get alot for your money however, I don't think the couple grand less is worth it in the long run. If you plan on keeping the car, an RSX or Celica would probably be a much better choice. The neon might beat them in a race, but it won't last half as long as those two cars will. Even comparing this car to a WRX(with only above average reliability) is kah-rap. The differences in build quality and reliability will quickly show you where the extra money went.
It's a step in the right direction, but I wish American car companies would spend a little longer designing the engines & drivetrains for dependability rather then speed.

As I said before, keep telling yourself it is a POS and unreliable. The PT and the new Neon rate better than Subaru in overall reliability! Also, the POS engine is copied by Mitsu and so is the turbo. The Turbo Omni GLH motors are renowned to be solid and durable, just the cold hard facts my man! I am sure the guy who walks into a dealer and wants to buy a modded SIR or GSR will say the same thing "this car has been driven in to the ground"
