how do you shift *5spd*
how does everyone shift here. Do you guys down shift skipping gears? like in 5th to 3rd etc... I heard its bad, but luckily I dont do that. I do that sometimes but not all the time. My friend was talking to me about it and I just wanted to see other peoples driving methods. If anyone can hear me out here please respond. I was told that the manual says not to shift like that. Its a must if you want to speed up quick cuz shifting from 5th 4th 3rd will take too long so sometimes i shift to third from 5th.. will this damage the synchros?
if I do downshift from 5th to 3rd, I rev it up to the correct rpm before putting it in gear ... same goes with every gear.
I don't think it will dmg the syncros ... but I don't know either.

i don't think shifting like that should mess anything up as long as your not shifting down from anything above 60 or so. i usually try and keep it under 3500 when down shifting to slow down.

it really depends on what RPMs you're at. if you're in 5th and the RPMs are low enough, and you rev-match (blip the gas while the clutch pedal is pressed) you can drop it into 3rd. when you downshift, you should rev-match whenever possible. as it is said; "a downshift should be heard, not felt" or something like that. if you rev-match correctly, you should only heard the engine whine down, not feel the lurch of when you let the clutch out.
well, if im downshifting to a redlight, i just put it in neutral and let the brakes slow the car down since thats what they are used for... but if i am slowing down and then speeding up, i would judge and see what gear i would need to be in and go stright to that gear, making sure that im in the avaliable rpms....like no jumping from 6000in 5th to 3rd.. thats dumb,,, but i jump shifts going up,, like 1st to 5th and i do 5th to 2nds... no 5th to 1st. because that means i went to a stop so its not really a 5th to 1st...
but i have done that for yrs in this tranny it i havent had a problem with it, even under nitrous, and dragging... doesnt complain....
after driving this thing like crazy, i can hear where i should be in, in each gear, so i always double clutch to match synco's if it allows it....besides, it shows skill and my friends cant do it... i guess im just gifted, cause my friends cars, that i drive once a blue moon, i get better 1/4 mile times speeds and launches then them..... stupid asses... HAHAHA

i only go from 5th to 3rd when im tryin to get around someone quick cus otherwise it drops into 4th around 3grand but 3rd would be around 4 grand for me thats better to pull around people. as for slowing down or what not i just go in order. but i never downshift into first EVER. not in the vic anyways
If you say, downshift from 6000 RPM in 3rd to 2nd gear, you'll blow it up.
However, say you acclerate moderatley in 2nd up to 50 or so... then just putting it straight into 4th would be fine. Upshifting puts very little wear on your synchros... but downshifting and not rev-matching will wear them out.
Always blip the throttle to either the appropriate RPM or a little higher. The synchros are way happier to slow down your engine than force it up to speed.

for those that have 6 speed hondas, you should not skip shift.
ie, dont accelerate then go from like 2nd/3rd to 6th. and i know you're going to want to know why, so gimme a second to find the technical information.
also, as for downshifting, if you are making a MAJOR change in rpm, say from 45mph 5th gear into 2nd, you might want to consider skip shifting to help save the blow to the synchros.

1) Normal manual transmissions have a gear reduction prior to transmitting the power to the gear selection, thus reducing the rotational speed of the gears and shafts and synchros. The S2000 transmission has the gear reduction after the gear selection. Thus the gears and shafts and synchros have a higher rotational speed. So skipping gears will be harder on the synchros of this transmission than most.
2) The S2000 transmission was designed to keep the number of number of synchro cones to a minimum. "It is impossible to ensure gear-shift exhilaration only by increasing the synchromizer capacity through the use of a multi-cone, because the shift **** load is not reduced to a satisfactory level".
The engineering of this transmission put a higher emphasis on exhilarating feel and quick performance rather than making it bulletproof (and I'm glad they did).

If you are going to drop it multiple gears, its best to double clutch. You're syncros will thank you. for a single gear drop, a simple revmatch will do.
once you get those two techniques down... then add in using the brake at the same time.. and soon you'll be heel Toe shifting!!! WHEEEEEE>...... Think about it, 5 controls (Steering wheel, shift lever, Brake, clutch and gas), 4 apendages... and you use all 5 at the same time.
Talk about fun!

you should state double clutch AND revmatch. a lot of people sometimes don't know that the two go hand in hand on the downshift. ya know?

I forget that the street ricers use the term Double cluch for something completly different from what the racing world uses it for too...
