VteC controller ?
Should i get one ? Will it help even ? My car is so hard ti find parts for that ill give my car performance any way that i can....unless u know if they will be coming out with parts for an HX.
I havent seen them for D17...only for D16/B16, however I think I saw a guy on here with one - you have to know what your doing or get it professionally tuned to see real gains, but whats better than having vtec engage at what 3000rpms
I have a question....if you do buy a VTEC Controller don't you have to get your car DYNO-tested to see any true gain. I also want to buy one but spending $300-600 Bones doesn't really agree with me if I don't see any gain.
yea its true...there really isnt much gain, ive heard only 3-5hp- but for that 320 (its on sale at Civicsuperstore) youll have a cool lookin flashin blue thing in the car, and you're VTEC will hit earlier...pretty much its an Air/Fuel Controller hence VAFC but with the VTEC controller added in
theres a group buy on them from http://www.german-autowerks.com/
if you're interested, its down to $260 each brand new, 250 each if they get over 21 people and there is a $50 deposit required, just tell them you want in on the group buy from honda-acura.net

Was also thinking about getting the same thing for my 2k1 sedan but I'm still getting some suggestions from the people here if it's worth it. I do agree that it defiitely adds some eye candy for the interior of the car though.
I read a couple reviews on them and in every one, they said it was better to install that after you install all of your other mods to see the most gain. so get your I/H/E first and then get the VTEC controller. much better gains that way. like I said, this is what I have read from several reviews. I do not actually own one so I can't speak from personal experience. hope this helps you out a little.

Right on the money there. Dyno testing helps you tune the car to the optimum level, using the Vtec Controller. However, like someone else mentioned...i dount that that amount of cash is worth the HP. Unfortunately..it's not as easy as just slappin that vtec controller in there.
Dear all,
I also want to install this controller for my car, do any one canget me the advice.
I also have a 2001 model civic and would like to install the controller on my car. I hope that you can help me to understand this equipment, Is it worth to have it ? do its function well to open the vtec earlier with this controller?
I have a question that the original setting of vtec is open at 5000rpm ( somebody told me, but I have not open it ). With this controller, I can open the vtec earlier and it is good to do it.
too much questions, but I have no way to know it, hope you can help me.
your reply would be highly appreciated, thanks in advanced

The Apexi does not work with the 2001 Civic.
It was made for the B16/D16 engine and will not work with the D17A2. Someone on this board tried with no success in the Tech Forum.
I have installed one in my 1999 Si and my VTEC engages at 4500rpms (see my rides for a pic). My car is bone stock, went in the 1/4 with another bone stock Si and edged it out by half a car. Its def worth the money, once I add I/H/E I look to suck even more power out of it.

ok here is the low down on the apexi v tech controller
i know cuz ive seen it work
if u get it.
u MUST have some serious mods besides the usual Intake, header, exhuast.
u must have pulleys, cams, new pistons, new rods. and so on for u to see the effects
but it does work.
if i were u, ive wait around for a bit for more parts to come out.
other than that all i wanna say is
is it better than having a vtec controller that adds 3-5HP or no vtec controller which equals to no HP gains??

hey civic kid where do u live at? the dealers around neyc have lot of 2k1 parts.... well anyways i have the VFC for my 2k1 ex and 1g eclipse ...its aight....tell u the truth there are positives and negatives for the VFC imy vtech comes out at 4200 rpms so that is around 1500 rpms quicker than the stock. but the guy at the dealer told me that the engine takes a lot of heat from this. cause our car's v-tech a suppose to be used for only 5k-redline so if u spool up your v-tech at such a early rpm your engime might not last as long. but guess wut i'm not planning to be drivivng the same cara for 10 years..so its all good and nothing beats hearing the high pitched sound of a v-tech engine for and extra 1500 rpms
and for all u ppl out there that don't believe v-tech controllers work for all civic u dun even need to have v-tech (the Apexi one has a blue light which looks very cool so +50hp) the whole purpose of the VFC is to regulate airflow so your v-tech comes out earlier which will give u a little edge. I am saying it works for cars without v-tech cause i have it on my turbo eclipse and that has no v-tech... and i am not the only one with it on a non v-tech car. it just regualtes the air flow so i get better boost on my turbo... so u can get a VFC for almost any car if u wanted to.
bad news for all of you......i spoke to the guy on this website that does have the v-afc......
unfortunetly because of our ecu's and our new version of vtec (3 stage) we are not able to control the vtec engagment points with the current products on the market......
it would be a better investment to go with a s-afc, this would give you more options in fuel/air tunning and would be more worth the money then buying the v-afc and not being able to use half of the features
sorry to burst everyones bubbles!

hey...vtec controller dont' work unless you got a vtec engine...wut it does it it allows you to set for the vtec to kick in earlier rather than the normal 5,500rpm..i think it helps a bits!!
I'm going to post one last time.
- The apexi VAFC will allow you to change the fuel ratios and stock engagement VTEC point which in a 2k1 EX is 4600rpms. On my VAFC it looks like this:
L--->H 4800rpm (point when VTEC kicks low to high cam)
H-->L 4600rpm (point when VTEC disengages high to low cam)
This is in my 99 Si where stock VTEC engagement is 5600rpm.
HOWEVER the APEXi VAFC WILL NOT WORK WITH THE 2k1 CIVIC's D17A2 ENGINE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This has been tried by members in the Tech forum to no avail, the VAFC was made for the B16/D16 ENGINE OF THE 6TH GEN!!!!!!!!
That is why dood said a SAFC would be better, because at least you could modify your fuel ratios.

APEXi should made a VAFC for the new engine on our 2k1 civics. It should work the 3 stage vtec.

odd, i thought that the v-afc would work on any vtec engines. i know for sure that it is not only limited to b-series and previous d-series engines because the instructions to the v-afc show wiring diagrams for almost every honda including the oddessy! now the newer models hondas are not included in the manual but i have seen them installed on other newer hondas. so im sure with the right harness you should be able to install and tune a v-afc into a 2k1 civic. c'mon if my f20c can take a v-afc why can a civic? oh yeah what ecu are 2k1 civics running? ie program?
im sorry but cant you read...ppl have already tried wiring it to the ECU and it dosnt work, even APEXi themselves have said it. Notice how on the back of the box the F20C is one of the supported engines. No where on the box does it say D17A2.
Hey Civickid... i have an HX too... but most of my parts are made for lx or ex models. The only difference with the HX is that our engines were made for ultra low emissions. Other than that... its the same as an LX. But we have Vtec.
