Ethanol 85
Does anyone know if our cars can be ran off Ethanol? I work for the state and they are telling us to fill our vehicles up with Ethanol. Mind you these are Ford Taurus's but have had no mods to the engine for Ethanol.

well i work for the government and we use E-85 as well. it's 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. burns fast as **** compare to gasoline but cheap as fvck. however you shouldn't use it unless your vehicle is specifically E-85 compliant Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV). why don't you try and see how it goes? hahaha

e-85 is availible in some gas stations.. similar to how diesel is only availible in certain stations...
as for it being used in a civic.. our cars werent designed to burn that stuff... what would probablly happen is that the motor would knock like a **** cause the octane rating isnt high enough

Which means BP gas is as much Ethanol as it can take. Not worth a try, Ill stick water and rice.
when i drove out to seattle i seen gas stations that contain regular unleaded with the 10% ethanol i didnt notice till i was done pumping gas. I wasnt for sure if it would hurt my car but my car is still running fine.

... i hope you know.. e-85 is composed of primarily corn oil....
i know e-85 isnt good for our motors.. it needs the pure gasoline to run like its supposed to, i know ppl who put e-85 in their cars that werent flex fuel compatible... and it screwed up their fuel pump, injectors, and had a LOT of buildup on their valves and pistons...
ethanol doesnt burn as cleanly as gasoline in the combustion chamber..
